I dont know what to do!!
« on: July 01, 2007, 01:50:43 PM »
My Snare Drum keep detuning like crazy... It will stay at the disired tuning for a couple songs or so, then its starts to sound super flat... Then wrinkles start to appear... Is it something inside the drum that is causing this rapid detuning?... I am getting fed up with this snare... I sounds exellent but it has some quality issues... The tension rods acually loosin to the point where they almost come out completly... :-\ Some body give me some advise because I really don't want to have to give up the drum....

*Suggesting possible problems*

-Your tuning is off

-Your bearing edge is not level or warped/ Poor quality lugs/ Poor craftsmanship

-Your accuracy is so impeccable that every time you strike "dead center" each rod slightly detunes ;D ;)

*Possible solutions*

-Adjust your tuning (only if you think that's the problem of course ;) )

-Get a NEW (better;)) snare

-Teach me your technique!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Man, just throw some die casts on it and call it a life

If you have the six lug design, you're in good company, since you can get them from my posted URL.  If not, you may have to do some searching on the web or your local music store.  Here is the URL: http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10051&langId=-1&productId=900025552

Will the Die Cast hoops open up the sound a little bit more...?.... I was thinking about also putting some PureSound wires and a Ambassador snare side on it also because the bottom of the drum is stock...

Die cast hoops will focus the sound of the drum, and is less susceptible to detuning.

Until then, just do what us 'regular' folk do: Save up until you are able to get what you want (or need).

And, it's endorsed.  :)

Endorsed ;D spelling error my fault... They dont have the 8 hole hoops J Kay... Will the Die Cast hoops give it a deeper sound also?

The funny thing is, that is took detuning for me to find the sweet spot of the snare... It had a clear pop but still had the depth I was looking for.. :o.. I just wish It would stay that way....

The deeper sound will come from your tuning, and the range in which your drum will be able to handle.

Regarding the eight holes, try searching for some - that is, if you are interested in using a die cast hoop for the batter (side).

a cheaper way to solve the problem of detuning on the Musashi or any snare is swithch the metal washers for plastic.
the second cheapest is plastic tuning locks.
the third is a lil more expensive and that's the tunerz rods from DW.

I have the 12" Musashi 4yrs now and the plastic washers worked for me.
Die cast hoops will help because they are more rigid. They take the pitch up a bit but your tuning will be more consistent however your tuning range will get slightly smaller because of the rigidness of the hoops.
I suggest getting the S-Hoop to keep the tuning range and add rigidity at the same time instead of die-cast.
