Just out of curiousity I wanted to ask this question. I notice that every drummer has some kind of signature licks they do before they began to play.  This is important because it you notice, every drummer that is there is looking at you while you're doing it. It kind of lets them know how good you are. lol

Now me personally, I have to do the rolls. Its almost like natural instinct. Alot of people might get this confused with showing off, but if I don't do it before I began to play, it just doesn't feel right.......

I noticed that when i was smaller lol
it seems we do that to make their presence as a drummer felt lol
im familiar with seeing cats doin the doubles on the hi-hat and sometimes a couple doubles on the bass drum

im sure we've all seen that

Yeah the doubles on the bass drum are a must.

But it seems as though when I know other drummers are present, its like there's a MUST for me to do some real nice warm up licks. Its just out of habit. Like the saying goes, "if you got it, flaunt it". (I'm not one to do that while the choir is singing, so why not do a little something before the song starts? lol
