Ibanez SR505 or Ibanez SR405QM
« on: September 03, 2007, 01:34:07 PM »
Hi to all LGM family,
I am new here, but I have been visiting the site alot and decided to join.
Question I have is, which bass would be good for someone with small hands
and a short arm. I am only 5'0 and the bass I have It is hard for me to play
the lower frets from the 5th fret down to the 1st. I was looking at the Ibanez
SR505 and the SR405QM cause the frets are closer, but if you guys or gals lol
know one that would fit me let me know PLEASE.

p.s. Americanmusical.com has awesome prices and they even have it where they
will ship it to you and you pay monthly. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

Welcome to the LGM family obvious3975. Both of these basses are excellent. My suggestion though if you can is to try them both out. Basses are like a good pair of shoes, you have to try them and get a good feel especially if it is going to be in your hands alot. Good luck with your search...you will know when you have found the right one..it will fit like a glove..
May God's Grace & Mercy smile upon you!

I have small hands, but long arms. I decided on the SR505 becuase when I picked it up it felt right.  You know that feeling you have when you know its right deep inside.  I held several basses before and after I held the SR505, I keep coming back to it.  I walk into the store to see if they had received anything new.  I look up on the wall and there she was the price was dropped again. I pulled it down. plugged it in and my search for my first bass was over.  You have to hold it.

hey stifled,
you say that you have the SR505?
If so I have short hands and short arms lol
Is the neck very long and is the frets smaller like close together instead of being
wide and hard to reach with short fingers like mine. lol

Hi obvious3975,

The SR505 is has 24 frets. Starting from the top and working down, the distance between the 1st fret and the 2nd is 1 3/4", 2nd and the 3rd is 1 5/8", 3rd and the 4th 1 1/2", 4th and the 5th 1 3/8", 5th and the 6th 1 3/8", 6th and the 7th 1 1/4", 7th and the 8th 1 1/8.  It continues to get smaill with the smallest distance between fret 3/8".  The distance between the 1st fret and the fret just at the body of the bass where the neck is bolt onto the bass is 20 1/2".

Now keep this in mind.  I started out worring about my small hands then I realizing I was building a wall in my own mind.  Then about that same time I ran across a video clip of a guy playing a bass with one hand.  Its in your heart to play so, play.  You will overcome phyiscal limitations through learning different techniques.

You have to feel the bass to know it's the right one for you.
