strictly gospel? or secular too?

Gospel - don't know of many (if any) guitar solos...cept i bought the SoulSeekers album with Jubu and Charlie Bereal on guitars few weeks ago..and the song "What Would You Do" has Jubu doing an amazing/soulful solo...

Secular - well... there's a live version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" done on the VH1 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction tribute to George Harrison (of the Beatles)...and it included Tom Petty, Jeff Lynch, Dhani Harrison (George's son), and the ending soloist.....im scared to say it.......Prince...(dont hurt me!!).

DISCLAIMER - IM NOT SAYING THAT HE IS AN AMAZING PLAYER OR THE SOLO WAS JUST BLAZING, BUT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SONG AND THE EMOTION THAT WAS FLOWING...PRINCE ATTACKED IT CORRECTLY IN my OPINION AND IT CAME OFF FANTASTICALLY....I SHAKE MY HEAD EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO IT....THEN I PLUG IN AND PLAY ALONG WITH IT. ITS A GREAT CLASSIC ROCK TYPE TUNE (PERFORMED LIVE AT LEAST)...

Prince  :P (I'm kidding)

You know, Frampton does a killer cover of that, too (While My Guitar Gently Weeps).

Hmm... same here, not a whole lot of gospel solos out there that I've heard. The one's I have heard are over-processed, and don't really flip my lid.

I doubt I can pick a favorite solo... Probably something off of the Allman's last live album (One Way Out was the name of the album--oddly enough, One Way Out wasn't on the album lol). Warren and Derek do an AMAZING back and forth at the outro of "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'." There's some crazy stuff on that album's version of "Rockin' Horse," too.

I must say that one of my faves is Let it Rain.  A few more are who's that lady(Ernie Isley), Can't nobody(Robert randolph), It was your grace and mercy the main song and the reprise(Jonathan Dubose on Vincent Walker CD) and some more that I can't think of right now.

Robert Cray does a great solo in his song "Time makes Two". So soulful and you never have to hear the words of the song to know what the sopng is about. :'(

SRV does a great SONG on the Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD. I say song, but it is really just a ten minute long guitar performance by him and his troop.

The Robert Cray solo is on the Crossroads DVD also.

You know that he's got a Guitar World column now, don't you? You might be able to pick some of that stuff up. He just went over the riff and solo excerpts from "Prog" last month.

I don't even try to touch that stuff... Same with Satch and Vai, etc... I just get all depressed and want to quit (I'm kidding).

If that's your thing, then that's your thing...

Personally, Michael Angelo Batio scares the living daylights out of me  ;)
