I've owned two, and still have one out of the two - the Yamaha Anton Fig signature snare drum and the Yamaha Akira Jimbo signature snare.  I still have the Akira Jimbo.

For both drums, it sounds more natural and unrestricted.  It's really no sonic comparison to metal hoops, whether they are aluminum, steel or zinc.  The cross stick sound would be described as 'knocky', if that makes sense.

How would the sound on my Musashi... Im looking for different ways to get out differents sound without just tuning... Would the wood and Oak clash as far as the sound goes? If that makes sense....

The sound will be more open, as mentioned in my previous description.  Also, there would not be a clash of sound, as my A.J. is made from an eight ply Beech shell.  The Yamaha Vintage Hoop is nineteen plies of Maple.

I found them to sound more open BUT I would not want that sound for all my snares.

Honestly, they tell the truth in depth about your snare.  As you can see in my pic I have one.  The greatest thing about wood hoops is no matter how low you tune your snare, you can still get a full rimshot sound with the snare tone.  I love them.

P.S. - Record them verses your standard steel and you see and hear the difference.

DuvalsLilJohnLumpkin - Your snare sort of looks like the Elvin Jones model from a distance.  I'll post a photograph for illustrative purposes:

Im not a expert on Wood Hoops but, I would think that it would give a Steel snare more control but still carry the openess of the Steel Shell :-\ ?/?

If I'm not mistaken, you can't order yamaha wood hoops for either Musashi model. If that is indeed the case, check Precision Drum Company on the web. They will make the hoops for you.

I know the drummer from one of Tyler Perry's dvds had a musashi with wood hoops on it and it sounded awesome. I'm not sure what he did about getting them to fit the musashi.
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

Im going to keep looking around because there is bound to be something out there to fit the drum besides getting a custom on made!! I hope... :-\ ::) ;)
