Cosby has the right to speak about us, he is us. So to say this is an issue with all races, makes it less of an issue with us?

May I suggest a book by John McWhorter “Authentically Black". It's a great read.

We reduced illiteracy from 80% to 30% in 1903 ( Du Bois from Souls of Black Folks) in the Post Slavery period when life was much, much harder and we as people had far less opportunity, let alone money and jobs. So how in the world can we still be blaming as you say society for what we ourselves can do.


Do you know the library is free?

If you don't have a library card, you can just spend hours sitting in comfort and the correct lighting and read. There are no police in the library to shoot you because they thought you might be stealing a book, no librarian saying "um the black folk’s books are in the back".

In the library there is an entire section dedicated to black folks, black disporea, black thought, racisms and whatever else a black person may want to READ so they are not force feed" white America"

And if you don't understand something, you don't have to be ashamed or afraid to ask. Just go to the reference section and get you a dictionary or an encyclopedia and then teach yourself at your own pace so that you don’t have to blame the education system for not catering to your own needs.

The problem is you won't find most of these knuckleheads near a library because they would rather be seen acting a fool rather than seen getting wisdom.

yes it is that sad. for me my sadness comes out in passion and I scream on the inside when I walk out of my office to catch the metro home ( saving gas & time) and I listen to kids talk so foolishly. And this is everyday. Not 1 day goes by and youknow what. All of them arn't poor. All of them are not experienceing racism discrimination at times maybe( some of which they bring on themselves) but out right racism, Heck no!

We say Bill should not talk like that but our children ACT that way all day long. Is it because he is Bill Cosby and he should choose nicer words and discriptions but 50cent, Rich Boy and all these rappers do not have to and we hear them all day long on radio and T.V. far more than we hear from Bill Cosby.

Freedom real freedom, comes from knowledge and to be honest, Knowledge only really cost you, time & effort. But because we feel like America owes us something that we should not have to work and strive for, we never attain it. The sad thing is they know most of us won't do right even if they gave it to us.

How many athletes are given a " free ride" and they actually only have to do something they have done since childhood- run a ball, shoot a ball, catch a ball? In the last 5 years over 785,000 scholarships have been given out to AA men and women just for sports alone (only counting the major sports BB, FB, Baseball, Track& Field) guess how man actually graduated...... less than 360,000. And that was a free ride. Not counting NAIA schools or the black colleges. Just DIV 1 & 2.

So are white folks making us lazy too????

This is us, and us alone. Besides the fact that we give folks too much credit and power over us. We are the only group that still uses opression as an excuse and it is not even a valid one.

If somebody was hung today it would make the news. in 1903 - 1925 it might depending on where you lived. What opression? What racism is there out there that God has not already made a way of escape from? NONE.

You ain't right I never said that Cosby didn't have a right to have his divisive views. I only said that his views were quite skewed. Truth is, as a whole the value of education among the working class is taking a massive nose dive. American culture values bling, sex, fun, drugs and entertainment than education. Our entertainment executives market all types of poision to kids everyday. My perspective speaks to a growing constituency of white and black who love to point out the degenerate behavior of blacks but look the other way when statitics show that the broader population has the same problem.

If the motion picture Knocked up was done by black comedians, I can assure you Cosby would've said something. The movie about ghetto dudes playing golf looks funny but I gurantee you it will feed into the stereotype of brothers not having "ettiquete" in the most sacred of places. That's where I was getting at. The educational problem is an American problem. Historically, rich kids were the ones who were educated not the working class. That changed in the late 17th century but most poor white kids didn't finish high school. It all changed when former slaves started to those priviliges.

So please save me the speeches on how black people need to fix XYZ. Most Americans are still blind to how race divides us from uniting and working together to demand adequate resources to educate all children. We know what proverbs teaches about training up children but what about the scriptures that teach against laying stumbling blocks out for your neighbor? This capitalistic society with market death and destruction and market life as a path for suckers. So how do parents get all the blame for society's ills. Parents and society at large are responsible for our own demise....

I'm trying to be quick with this but This is and always will be about You( Not Furious but you as in self).  Black, white, red, or brown it comes down to self. First, you have to know JESUS as your savior. This is a huge point I notice you always skim over. The bible say GREATER is he that is in me(self) than he that is in the world. Be not conformed to this world but be ye(self)transformed by the renewing of....here it comes again YOUR mind. Oh again it is about self?

God has NEVER made the promises of his word contingent upon anybody else. he has never withheld his promises from one who believed because of anyone else. The Children of Israel did not make it to the promise land when they were suppose to because of Pharaoh( him and his army of oppression died at the sea)... No it was because of self that they had to wander for 40years.

Jhn 12:8 For the poor always ye have with you;  ( rest assured there are going to be some poor people but do not mistake poor for oppression or discrimination)

Luk 16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's,( how many of us misuse and are not good stewards over the government money, selling food stamps for cash rather than using it for what it was meant for, using financial aid to buy a car rather than getting the proper books for your education) who shall give you that which is your own? ( Don't expect your blessing from God if you don’t even take care of and be a good steward over what you get from man( Yeah your paycheck and stuff)

Lastly the word on wisdom and knowledge:

Ecc 2:26 For [God] giveth to a man that [is] good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to [him that is] good before God. This also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.

Pro 1:7 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I'm going to stop with a scripture most people seldom look at in detail:
Pro 8:11 For wisdom [is] better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it

Black folks main problem is we go after things before the knowledge of how to attain things. Not rent them, lease them, but own them.

You can go to school eat top ramen and make cheese sandwiches, share a friends clothes, and live in a box with 3 people. Or you can go get a job buy a car, you pay on for 4 years, rock some gear and shoes that will be played out in 3 months and run the streets.

Guess who is really ahead of the game and ready to attain things 4 or 5 years later. The one who went for wisdom rather than the things.

Lastly Furious. Do you know what the prerequisite is to go to a Junior College. You don't need a 3.4. Do you know what  GPA you have to have to get a GED? Do you know a GED will get you into a JC, Do you know they will give you... GIVE YOU Financial aid and Stafford loans, Pell grants to attend a JC. Do You know the credits from the JC will get you into a 4 year institution. Do you know you can take 8 years to get a BA if you just keep going.

But do you know most of us black folks really don't want to do the work because it is not overnight success. :-

You made two pretty valid points.  But, have you considered that perhaps the reason Cosby (and those who agree with him) are lamenting about Blacks is that this is the (figurative) community in which they live?  We ARE Black.  We want our community to do better.  We speak against black ignorance, black degenerates, black criminals, black baby machines, black welfare abusers, black deadbeat parents, black high school dropouts, black gangsters, black convicts, black drug dealers because THAT'S WHO WE CARE ABOUT.  They are OUR children, offspring of OUR ancestors, living in OUR community.  And whether we like it or not (and I'm sure many will disagree), we speak for each other.  When the media reports a black man robbing a bank, that black man is a shame for the entire race.  African-American culture is a collective community, a village, a family, whether we like it or not.  When black people succeed, the entire race benefits from it.  When blacks fail miserably, the entire race suffers.

Take this for example.  How many times have you heard black people (whether jokingly or seriously) refer to the "fact" that white kids are the ones shooting up schools, and that this isn't a black crime?  Or that white people kill their spouses?  Or that white people embezzle hundreds of thousands from their companies? 

Our society automatically groups different people based on race, sexual identity, weight, gender, religion, nationality.  It's called stereotyping, and it's common, and in many cases unavoidable.  When Cosby and others speak about the ills of OUR community, it's not in a finger-pointing manner, blindly assigning blame and self-hatred to their own community.  It's because THIS is the community about which they care and want to see succeed.

Why would Cosby mask his real issue to be politically correct?  He has a right to his passion, as do we all, and he feels (as I do) that some black people are an embarassment to the community.

Now... can we please talk about some GOOD black folks?
