The Walk came out in 1982! I think you meant 70's!

Whew!! man the memories!! I was a freshman in college in 1982 and the Time was legit! Another nice bass lick was on some of Luther's albums

The first bassline that hooked me was Misdemeaner by the Foster Sylvers, early 70's. I was a big Bootzy fan & Louis Johnson, & of course Larry Graham, but the bassline Leon Sylvers laid down on Misdemeaner was "Mean" & for him to have only been in his teens. If you haven't heard it or forgot about it, look it up, it will be well worth the search.

You telling your age now!! That is a wicked bassline!! Leon & little brother Foster could both lay it down on a Rickenbacker with a pick no less!

Now THATS what Im talkin bout!!!
If that's the guy that played for Slave back in the day, he is one of my absolute favorites.  These are two of my absolute favorite basslines of all times.  He is killing it.

When I play this one, I feel like I can really play.

Also, I was crazy about the bass player for Brick.  I could not wait for the bass solo.

I forgot to add that the James Jamerson clip was very nice.  He is the man.  You cannot talk about playing bass and not mention James Jamerson.

Nice! He's missing a few of those nuances but he did a good job.

Larry is so sick!!! I had to take some PB!!!! LOL!!!! In that video he looks like Damon Wayans in costume!

On a serious tip how many of y'all remember "Hair"
That song taught me how to really "thump" If you ain't heard it before the bassline ain't even sick.

IT'S TERMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go and download it I have never heard anyone play it right including myself. I come awful close though.

Ok youngster! LOL!!! I was saving HAIR for tonight. I didn't want to get all of the old schoolers including me a heart attack by staying up until time to go to work playing the oldies but goodies, but since you broke it out, yes...HAIR is where it is at....

DW! You was doing it baby, thump that mutha!!

I love the bass guitar...As bassists we get to be cool and laid back, funky, nasty...whatever you want to be.....it's all about the BASS!!!!

I've been waiting for someone to mention Glide by pleasure. thats probably one of the most familar basslines ever. Nathaniel Phillips laid it down. When I was coming up that was one of the songs you had to know how to play, to get any respect. I know you old schoolers know.
