i have an old gambale instructional vhs tape. he's a great player, but his approach is oppositeve of everything i had learned, so i didn't get much application from it. still cool to see him rip it up.

yeah, the thing that threw me about his technique is that even in his alternate pciked stuff, he does sweeps between strings, so when he's doing 3 note per string patterns he always goes:

donw-up-down then does a mini-sweep to the next string to a down stroke on the next note then repeats the picking pattern over and over. coming from the gilbert school of alternate picking (not a fraction as good or fast, just the technique, where alternate picking is STRICTLY alternate picking), i just couldn't apply much.

He's an amazing player though....

I don't know why I never thought to check youtube for Frank Marino. I think the last time I was looking for Marino, I was unaware of youtube (I'm always behind on that stuff).

This is the first Marino I ever heard. My co-guitarist in the blues rock outfit I used to play in was all the time playing these old records and 8 tracks for me, and this was one of them (the older one, though).

That's so odd, I was messing around with that stuff the other day, and was planning on doing a vid on harmonics and tapped harmonics and how you can add texture to slow worship songs with them...

Weird...

I'm also going to try to do one about dynamics in general, and how your guitar and amp interplay with one another more than a lot of people utilize...
