PDP Metallic Finishes...
« on: August 09, 2007, 09:35:52 PM »
...alright so, I was at D2g, O-town 5 Star Drumshop, and I was looking around and talking to the owner when suddenly I looked  to my left and saw a beautiful PDP LX in Metallic Tobacoo Burst. (Picture below does the finish no justice.)  So I said to myself, Drumma-Sheen wants and LXE but that's sort of played out already but I've seen no one with this finish yet.  So Sheen, I suggest you go ahead and sell your kit and pick this one up since you like to switch PDP kits like your under garments. LOL

...anyway, these two finishes are really stunning.  You guys have to see them in person. :o  The way they look under the lights really made them look like their father "DW". LOL

....the Metallic Gold Fade is my other favorite out of their whole line.

Pretty. real pretty.

...I'm telling you both of these kits have a crazy finish.  They look like they're worth $3,000.

...Oh yeah, I saw that Gretsch Brass Snare (Heavily Hammered) that you want.  That joka is $659.99. :o  I picked it up and saw the tag and put it back down gently. LOL

Lol. I want the Copper. Not the Brass. I can pick it up for $629. Thats a huge price tag. Another reason why I want to make sure I make the right decision.

I have never seen them in person but the various pics I've seen on the net are just horrible.  I think I will stick with the Birds eye over maple...now thats a sweet lookin kit in person as well!

I find that unless its really high def. the pictures these days are not doing the awesome finishes on the drums justice...I saw the pictures when I ordered my new kit BUT when I took them out of the boxes they were 100X nicer then I thought.
Mapex Drums, Grant Custom Basses, Carparelli Basses, Istanbul Cymbals,!

...exactly.  This is a Mapex Saturn Floor Tom but the PDP Metallic Tobacoo Fade is similar to this in finish but not color obviously.

I was looking at that colour for my Saturns, but I think I might want brighter.

Just an observation:  The initial photographs were of a higher quality than a phone camera; the company's stock photos are just altered by Photoshop.

I think that the better statement would be "Unaltered, 'real life' photographs would do the finish justice, other than looking at the company's stock/press photographs."

I really dont know, they have a limited time colour out now but you dont get the hardware and bang for the buck thats not worth it for me.

...you know, you've brought up an interesting point.  I feel like they should all be taking photo's of these kits using j_kay's camera. LOL  That joka's camera is quite scary and it's not liked by celebrities for the fact that you see underneath the make-up. LOL

...man, Mapex has some really great finishes.  I'm diggin' many of them and not just two or three like other companies.

Don't talk about anymore drumsets. I'm trying not to change my mind anymore. You sure do a good job of changing a brother's mind. Geez... :-[
