Mary Winkler, 33, is to be released -- perhaps today, her lawyer says

She shot her preacher husband in the back with a shotgun in March 2006

She was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, served less than a year

She now faces a legal battle with her in-laws over children, husband's death

Actually, I always found it curious that the whole story never really came out about this.  She says he was a monster, totally NOT the person the church and the public thought he was.  Of course, his family says he was an angel.

I don't know, wasn't there.

But, if he was that wonderful, why on earth would she kill him?  No other motive was ever offered...

I believe there was more to it than any of us will ever know, but to shoot the man in the back while he was SLEEP....  she could have at least woke him up and told him to roll over before she blasted him!

That story is right our backyard of Tennessee. Seems so tragic. Nobody wins. I hear his parents have turned the kids against her. She looks like she has totally separated herself from reality. This story is so sad on so many levels.

That is so sad.  I wonder why he chose dropping her off of the balcony?  That seems like an extreme way to carry out a mercy killing.  Seems like you'd have to hate a person to throw them off of a balcony.

It's a very sad story... I'm thinking he must've lost his mind for a minute... or something like that.  A mentally healthy person does not throw their loving wife over a balcony out of mercy...

I'm always stumped when people do things like this thinking they're doing the right thing, and end up ruining their own lives... such a waste.

Today's news item is a bit funny....

Basically, dude gets caught "cheating" on his wife because 1-800-FLOWERS sent a "thank you for your order" note to his house.  Dude had sent the flowers to his girlfriend.  Wifey (from whom he was already separated) accuses him of cheating and doubles the amount she wants in the divorce settlement.  He sues 1-800-FLOWERS for $1.5 million.

I wondered about that too. If they were legally seperated or if papers had been filed, seems to me that wouldn't carry weight in the judicial system. HOWEVER, I bet this is a women he has cheated with for a long time and the wife just got the evidence she needed to prove suspicions and possibly other documentation that she needed additional help to prove.

I have a hard time believing this is the first girlfriend he's had since saying "I do."

SJon, to answer your question, I sure hope not.  Morally and Biblically, dude was wrong.  But in the eyes of the law, I'd like to think that being "legally" separated means just that.  I'm just guessing, though.

A certain disturbing news item was just shown on our local news (Fox 5) about the physical harm of a certain nationally renowned Christian woman. I don't wanna upset anybody by sharing not-so-good news about a fellow Christian, so I'll wait until someone else mentions it... but the saints need to be praying... for real.
