Truth is, employers can find ways to terminate most employees if they try hard enough.

In VA they dont even have to try. They can fire you just cause its Wednesday, or cause its raining out. At will employment is da debil (when its exercised on you of couse. Quite the contrary when you exercise it ::) ).

Say that again, lol!  But if you're probationary... watch out... Nevada is "at will" as well, and they will fire you on probation and while you're looking stunned and crazy they'll hit you with "we don't have to tell you why".  One of my good friends was hired here, and her performance and everything was outstanding, and then they lowered the boom on her.  They knew I was her friend so they felt they owed me an explanation, but they didn't tell her NAYTHIN!  Then told me I was obligated to keep it confidential... I was like, man, you shouldn't have even told me, LOL!

While I don't like how this was handled, I really can't be too mad at them.  Still...telling everyone and their mom about it was wrong.  I'm not quite sure if she should have gotten fired.  It might have been more appropriate to suspend her.  :-\

Quote
“Jarretta was asked not to return because of a moral issue that was disregarded, namely fornication, sex outside of marriage. The employment application, which she filled out, clearly states that as a leader before our students we require all teachers to maintain and communicate the values and purpose of our school.”

That’s a long way from saying teachers are prohibited from having premarital sex, the couple argue.

No it's not.  They're a Christian school.  I would think that they go by the Bible.  God says that sex is only okay between a married man and his wife.  I would think that the teacher is a Christian and knows what God requires.  (I'm assuming that all the teachers at a Christian schools are Christians)  Still, due to this case and the fact that most people put sins on a scale of what's a little sin and what's a big sin, I think that the school should, if they haven't already, figure out what sins are a firing offense and what aren't.  They can't keep firing people just because they sin.  Maybe there should be a "3 strikes, you're out" thing.  Idk.

I think they're going to lose the case.

In April 2009, Hamilton and Treftz went together to Ennis and told him she would be taking maternity leave in the fall. She says Ennis first complained that it was difficult for the school to cover women on maternity leave.

That's messed up.  That kinda makes it sound like this was a was a way around giving maternity leave.  :-\  It may be kinda reaching but still...

Guess I can put this story here.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_wedding_chapel_fugitive
LOL, wasn't that crazy?

I have a problem with him, and it's that it seems he somehow feels absolved of all responsibility for his actions because he's changed so much.  That's simply not true.  His life since the incident mitigates what happened, but I'd have more respect for him if he stood up and took responsibility for what he did to that family instead of trying to deflect it and pin it all on his "former self".  He has no right whatsoever to be bitter at the descendant of his victim for tracking him down.

Ditto. Frankly, I thought he was a bit off. Just his anger toward the victim's grandson raised a few red flags for me. Not to mention his seemingly serious insistence that the murderer was a totally different dude. That was just strange.

Of course, the inner me still feels bad for him.  :-\  Such a dumb decision, though. Dude was already off the hook. Served time, got out on parole and could've been out the rest of his life if he stayed out of trouble. He DID stay out of trouble, but evaded the parole officers? WHYYY??? How dumb!!!

I'm really trying to get to the bottom of this one...

Short version: a woman is found dead at home, apparent homicide; her 12 y/o daughter is missing. The woman's car is missing. The "weird" part is that the daughter is thought to be with a 30-something year old guy she met online, and:

Quote
Police are "confident" that Brittany Smith is with Jeffrey Scott Easley, Lavinder said. He described Easley as a "friend of the family" who met the girl online over the summer and "developed a relationship" with her. Easley moved in with Smith and her daughter in October, the chief said.

Huh???  ?/? ?/? ?/?

That's why these parents need to stop trying to be their children's friends. You have from 21 until the day they die to be their friend - and even then, you still have to parent.

Being "the cool mom" doesn't mean so much when you're dead and your daughter is missing at the hands of a man twenty years older than her.

Honda recalls 2.5m cars over stalling issue

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/48a7d96e-bf7b-11e0-90d5-00144feabdc0.html

Quote
Honda said it was recalling 2.5m vehicles because of a faulty part in the cars’ automatic transmissions that could cause their engines to stall.

The recall affects mostly cars sold by the Japanese carmaker in the US and China, and is one of the largest Honda has made to date.
