YIKES!!!!

http://news.yahoo.com/video/cincinnatiwlwt-18191085/court-orders-man-to-apologize-to-estranged-wife-on-facebook-28397541.html

This dude has to post a court-written apology every single day for 30 days on his FB page because of some comments he made on FB. His wife is blocked, so he compared it to "venting in a bar" or something... but the judge said nope.

that's crazy.

This kind of stuff really just breaks my heart. Not the story itself, but...

*sadsigh*

It really just breaks my heart.

And that's really all I'll say about it. I'm sad for Christianity, not for this guy and his people. Not for his assembly. Not even for the kids, at this point. I'm sad for "the church." There used to be a standard (like Titus 1, I Timothy 3 and II Timothy 2, for example). And that saddens me.

But whatever...

On to the next news story...

The article also said "Gilyard also is refraining from performing any pastoral duties, such as counseling," so basically, they don't want him to pastor, they only want him to preach... now why would that be? Oh, that's right. So their souls could be fed. Of course.

makes me think of that church in revelations that had lots of money but thats another thread

part I was tame compared to part II.  Part II had a little bit more detail.  I messed it up on my post.

So instead of firing the pastor, the church opts to ban children from their services....

I really have no words for this.

Un.be.lievable! I'm just wondering what kind of people make up the congregation to entertain this foolishness.

I don't know, I'm conflicted.  If he's been delivered, and the church is willing to stand by him... I guess it's between him, his church, and God.

I totally disagree. This man should not be anywhere near a pulpit. His very presence there does a disservice to the body of Christ.

I'm trying so hard not to engage in a discussion on this subject... UGH. My tongue is bleeding! LOL!

All I will say is this: to prevent maligning the body of Christ and bringing reproach upon Christianity and that particular church, they should've had the pastor to take a leave of absence until the court case is settled. I am the last person on earth to hold someone's sins over their head (as consistently evidenced by my opinions on J. Moss, Junie B., Tonex, Eddie Long, and every similar thread on LGM). He served his time and I take the liberty of assuming he's repented for his sins. They are no more disgusting to God than mine are. I do not judge this man.

HOWEVER, the selfless thing to do would be to avoid all this negative attention by putting him on a leave of absence.

It seems apparent TO ME that they are reluctant to do that because, as the article states, "with an average attendance of around 10 before Gilyard came to preach, numbers have shot up to 150 and 200 since his first sermon on Jan. 29..."

The article also said "Gilyard also is refraining from performing any pastoral duties, such as counseling," so basically, they don't want him to pastor, they only want him to preach... now why would that be? Oh, that's right. So their souls could be fed. Of course.

I don't know if you were being facetious with that last statement.. but from where I sit I'm with T-Block on this one.. and touching on  what LM said..

There still is a standard.. and that man should not be anywhere near a pulpit period. That is not "judging him" that is judging his actions and what they signify about his character, and he should not be preaching as long as these restrictions are on him. If he blew his calling he blew it.. Saul blew it... Judas blew it... I think it's a shame because it isn't like he was a sex offender who got saved ... and then repented and became a pastor. THIS MAN WAS A PREACHER FROM THE JUMP. Her's a nother article on it that puts it in a different light .. but .. his actions disqualify him IMO. Would you let a convicted drunk driver who caused injury to people in an accident become a bus driver?

Either the blood of Jesus can cleanse all sin or it can't.  If it can't then neither you nor I qualify either.

There still are consequences for our actions though.

There certainly are, but who decides when you are disqualified for the rest of your life?  If God has put it in you to do, and you are forgiven, I'd say pay no attention to people who say you can't.  That is between the person and God solely.  If God has indeed given them to do it, then there will be people for him to lead or minister to.  It may not be you or me, but someone in the kingdom will be helped.

I don't think it gives a bad name to the church or Christ or anything.  I mean, there's enough active ongoing sin in church leadership to do that all by itself.  I think people thought Jesus was giving a bad name to the church with his ragtag bunch of disciples hanging out with society's outcasts.  I don't think we are responsible for making sure the church doesn't get dirty.  If someone is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, it is the power of God unto salvation.  God will deal with the heart of the preacher if it is not right.  I think we should be more offended when the gospel preached is heresy and lies because that is what is responsible for a lot of the damage we see today.
