I've seen him play 2 both 4 strings one looked like a Ibanez and the other was a Fender.

I wish I knew how to post pictures.  The black Fender is a "P Lyte" outfitted with EMG pickups but no preamp, just two volumes and a passive style tone roll-off with a little mid range boost toggle switch.

The black bass in this clip definitely has a Fender neck & headstock, but the body sure looks Ibanez-like to me.  Is that what a P Lyte looks like, or do we have some bass surgery goin' on here?

Hi James,

Killer clip.  Tye's rehearsals are crazy, every bit as moving as the actual performances.  JYJ (the horn player playing Terry's bass in the beginning) is an amazing bass player too.

No surgery on the bass.  I've dressed the frets numerous times and the pots have been switched out, but it's a stock P Lyte Fender.  Jeremy was correct by saying it is an Aerodyne, because the P Lytes evolved into the Aerodynes over the course of a few years.  Same bass, different name.

The only non-stock feature is the EMGs which were in the bass when Thaddaeus bought it several years ago.

No high end builder likes to admit it, but the player truly does make the bass.  It's in the fingers.

I've never known Terry to play an Ibanez as he's partial to the P Lyte - that bass goes with him everywhere (unless it's in my shop getting some TLC)  All the same, he might have one - I don't know.

We've been developing the Infini's for nearly two years getting everything just right, but his particular model of choice won't be ready for the general public until '08.

He rocks an inexpensive bass, but it took quite a bit of labor and re-building to get it where it is today.  All the same, he could make a wet loaf of bread sound amazing!

i know that we can add jill scott and and eric roberson to that mix too however i was referring to like major tours (beyonce, Usher, Mary J. Blige, & etc.....). i also think you have to do it on a regular basis to get the endorsement. i dont know this yet to be fact but i will ask a friend of mine, he had gotten an endorsement when he was playing with nsync, joe, and mariah carey but now since he's just doing gospel he doesnt have an endorsement with certain companies anymore. like i said i dont know that for a fact that is why he doesnt endorse these companies anymore.

W'sup.
There is definitely another bass out there. I am sure about the P lyte. Crazy how he gets that tone outta that bass. Also, back in the day he did some fretless work and I saw him bring the fretless to one of Tye's Christmas concerts. He only played the intro with it then he picked up the Fender again.  Jill Scott's album involved some fretless work as well. "Do you remember me" ... Ideas and Concepts... or Concepts and Ideas (something like that
) features him on fretless on one song.  Can't remember the name right now. But I am sure, the weapon of choice is that P lyte. But he has been seen with other basses. Can't wait to here the Callowhill, that should be fun.
