I say keep protools and get some effect plugins for them.

Waves Diamond are awesome for stuff likw that. They are very expensive but worth the money.

i would advise that you use a three system setup

1. Logic great for recording live instruments
2. digital performer great for tracking songs
3. pro-tools with digi003 mixer board, great for vocals and overall editing (mixing and mastering)

then just have alot of plugins such as reason adapted and melodyne pitch correction

I agree with that as well. Although i don't use protools, I would go with that as well.

http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-APP-MACPROPTLE-PAK.html

the only thing i would add to this setup is to change the 003 rack to the mixer and to add another apple 23" monitor and things your gonna wanna get to add to this setup is a few external harddrives and max out your ram in that mac.

also the best thing about that deal it automatically includes apples 3 year warranty on the mac computer and thats a big plus

Man 150,000 is more than enough to put together a studio. I really wouldn't suggest a specific recording program to you because, everyone can feel comfortable on different things. I know a guy that owns almost every recording software that you can name, but he still uses fruityloops because he's comfortable with it. And he knows FL up and down. He can tell you everything you'dd want to know in FL. And, the sound that he gets out of FL sounds better and some peoples sound in protools, nuendo, logic, etc.

The only thing I WOULD suggest is, make to sure that he doesn't just buy stuff because of the pricetag. Tell him to buy some QUALITY equipment.

And tell him don't neglect to buy sound treatment products. There is a whole lot of equipment that is needed to buy besides just a computer, software, and keyboards.

I Hope This Helps!
