leopard ride is kind a high for me... i like groove ride ;) sorry people, but my personal opinion about cymbals is:
Zildjian and yamaha is good only for name. Sabian looks to the future and has some better cymbals than zildjian. ;D thats my opinion. If you look how much cymbals were at namm shows, so sabian has shown more cymbals than zildjian. if you look at sabian hhx aax HH and valve series, they are sounding great. ziljian sounds only K for me... sorry... i choose sabian

I'll give you the b.o.d that you're referring to name brands in general, because if you're referring to yamaha cymbals......then ohhhh you're gonna get it and this is your 1st post too..... I pray for you right now....lol, but Juse I do know a local church that has a yamaha ride, just like the Pearl company has their own line of cheezy cymbals back in the day.....lol

That 100% does not count at all!  He mentioned Yamaha cyms in the same breath as Sabian and Zildjian.  I already knew that they had cyms.  I used to own a Pearl ride.  If that is the case, Sonor has a bangin cymbal pack that is less than $150.

When did Yamaha start making cymbals ?/?

Sabian is on the cutting edge in a lot of things....  Their sound is very consistent.  To a fault in some cases...  All of their cymbals of a particular make and model will sound the same (or pretty darn close).  Zildjian is variant almost to a fault.  None of their cymbals of the exact same make and model will sound the same..... ever....  Can't speak to Yamaha's strong suits because i thought they were drum makers, not cymbalsmiths  :-\

sorry, i was talking about names then. ("Zildjian and yamaha is good only for name") offcourse i know that yamaa crafts drums over 40 yrs ;). I dont know why, but their names are too old for me... i'm looking for some refreshment. like new names KUMU drums or spaun, or even dw. their drums sound better, hardware newwer, and finnishes more instresting... I never looked, and i hope will not look at ancient firms like Ludwig, Gretch, amati... Need some new stuff :D ok thanx for the post, i think you missunderstund my post... i'd better choose sabian, and pearl...

So with your mentality, you wouldn't want a Mercedes Benz? I mean, they were established in 1871 so, their ancient. right? Why bother?

Need some new stuff ... i'd better choose sabian, and pearl...

Pearl started in '46, so that would make them 61.  Yamaha started in '67, so that would make them 40.  DW started in '72, which would make them 35.  Sabian was founded in '81, which makes them 26 - they are creeping up on the 30y mark, which would not make them (as) new anymore.  Regarding ages, we have the following: 61 --> 40 --> 35 --> 26.

There's nothing "new" or "refereshing" about those numbers - it's the application of how they execute their brand image and products is what makes a brand exciting and sets themselves apart from the competitors within the marketplace (in one's personal preference).

I guess that makes Pearl v. Yamaha your choice of an older company v. newer company a moot point.  Even Kumu is somewhat questionable in terms of age because he has a history of building drums from way back. Spaun is about the newest 'kid' on your list.

A Sabian man.  Word up!!!!!  I plan on buying a Leopard ride myself.  That is a bad ride.  I been using  a 20" AA Medium Heavy ride.  That is a serious arsenal you have there young man.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

Gretch still makes a great product.  Their USA Customs and New Classics are stunning.  If they are good enough for Vinnie Coliauta, they are good enough for me.

And the ku/MU game isnt until the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Whats the deal with drums?

...Zildjian and Yamaha are good only for names!?  What kind of ignorant comment is this?  Are you serious?  The ancient way of cymbal making is what guys want in the Jazz world.  Contemporary players want a happy medium that combines the old ways with a few of the new techniques unless you're playing some type of weird electronic music that needs a lot of "white noise" which Zildjian also provides.

...Yamaha knows how to make kits.  They are craftsmen which a lot of the new companies know nothing about. ;)  Ask "ddrum".  A lot of the major records that we hear have a drum sound provided by Yamaha Drum Corp.  Their product is by far one of the best out there and...key word...."TRUSTED".  Top 3 to be exact.

...sure, none of us can make you like anything but coming on to the boards and stating some off the wall random comment that has no type of facts that can make anyone agree with you is just ridiculous.

...I state the obvious....Yamaha and Zildjian are not just names in the Music Industry.  Go to any Pro Session with one of these Rinky Drum Company kits and see if they don't leave your junk in the trunk of your vehicle while you have to play on a Yammy, DW Ludwig or Gretsch.  And yes, I did say Pro Session or Major Recording Session and not Lil' Ray Ray's studio down the skreet in a room in his crib. ;)

And to a percentage, you are - we all are.  Again, it's the application of how they execute their brand image and products is what makes a brand exciting and sets themselves apart from the competitors within the marketplace (in one's personal preference).

...doc', the point is that I can understand you being upset with a Yamaha Rydeen kit and Zildjian ZHT's or ZBT's or whatever because those are beginner and "cheap" lines and don't sound good compared to PDP's or Sabian AAX's but to state that Zildjian and Yamaha are good only for their name is ridiculous.

....play on a Yamaha Maple, Birch or Beech Custom Absolute and play with good sounding Zildjian K's and/or K Customs and see if they're just a name. 8)
