WOOOW!!! George Duke, Lalah Hathaway, Doc Powell, John Stoddard, Kevin Whalum, his uncle Peanut Whalum and others.
Man this was the concert of all concerts. I'll try yo get to it really quick
First of all ya boy missed a serious opportunity. I got a call to be Sean McClures drum tech for the show, but your boy was sleep!!! Hey, i work nights and got the call around 4:30pm on friday afternoon, if you know me, you know that I'm snoring around that time.
But I did apperciate the invite. I did get a chance to meet Sean and talk with him during intermission, very down to earth guy. got his email so I'll definatley stay in touch with him....
Now to the concert...OH MY LAWD....First he started out this Sax Trio with Himself his cousin and his uncle Peanut that was 79 years old....amazing.
He Turned some old school songs around and put a Gospel Gospel Meaning to them....Like "You are everything and Everything is you". "Running Away". and a couple of others I can't remember...But IMHO the highlight of the night was when George Duke played a tune I am told was a somng he plays and always plays for his wife....completely KILLLLED!!!! that song after he played the song, he broke down crying at the piano, there wasn't a dry eye in there. I mean George must have 22 fingers cause he was playing stuff with such passion and fluidity it was incredible.....
Uncle peanut also played a song called Smiled and mixed it with GOD HAS SMILED ON ME...and took everyone in...
Kirk also dedicated a song he and his son wrote, to his father, Kirk said probably won't be around to see this cd/dvd finished. Very nice arrangement
Lalah is a fine sister I didn't know she was that fine...esp in person....whoooee.
Ok back to the concert....
Kevin Whalum sang himself silly.......
Jonathan Slocum was the MC and he had us falling on our faces laughing...he is trully a Stupid cat....I mean he was madd funny.
I will tell you LGM if you missed that one, you missed a good one. Luckily, it'll be available on dvd/cd......out
