Producers Vs. Beatmakers (Which are you?)
« on: May 03, 2007, 05:22:07 AM »
I was thinking about this when I was talking to a friend the other day and asked what was the actual difference. In a sense I dont look at myself as just a beat maker. I like to be part of every aspect of the song. Not just the musical composition, I also take part in the writing, the actual vocal arrangements and singing the background vocals, and even parts of the engineering. I advise everyone to go just beyond making a beat and get involved in every aspect of music production. It makes your stock go up a whole lot more, believe me.

Looking today I just happened to find this of my boy Warryn Campbell saying the exact same thing.

Check it out:

While that is true, sometimes you just gotta be who you are. If you can do more...go for it..if you can't, well dont' force it. That's what I would say.

Yeah I agree. i dont know if timbalands writes at all, he just makes the beats (thats what he's known for). he had an album, but no need to mention that. I do consider my self a producer, I write play compose and perform/minister as well. Its just in me, but if it was not, I would do what i could and stick with that. In other words "Do you". It does benefit if you can do all but soemtimes it can cause trouble. Its a case by case situation. God bless all of you and your desires according to his will.

In no way was I saying to not "do you". Think about it like this. For a basketball player, we liek the ones that can do crazy amazing dunks. But teams look for those players who can do those crazy dunks, play defense, shoot free throws, can pass the ball, etc. It ups their stock. If you have it in you, why not bring it out. That's all I'm saying. But always do you, no matter what.

I understan, I think also is what you mentioned in your first statement about "seasons" if its your desire then time will come but in the mean time one could study and work on the craft.  If im a low post player and I have a desire to shoot the 3, coach wont draw up plays for me immediatley. But i can still work on them and ease it in practice or the min of the game (being that were up by 20 or something)

no doubt...

just make sure if you are using the computer to select and run your sounds...on the computer your local settings are "off"

also make sure everything is on a separate channels  strings ch:1 drums ch:2 for example...

i think the default is "any"...  ?/? which means all channel as once.

I consider myself a composer/producer and engineer (not always in that order)  I don't see myself making beats.  People inquire about beats all the time but it's not me.  I work with plenty of guys that make beats and I outsource to them.
