How would you find about auditining for record labels to be a session player.

I would recommend joining your local Musicians' Union.  It's a start.  Labels don't really have their own session musicians anymore.  But be forewarned, joining the union may keep you from more informal stuff due to the bylaws depending on were you are.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

I know some musicians that are in the local union around here and to me it sound awful to work for them. A drummer told me that if he hit the floor tom when it should have been one of the other toms he will be fined $20. For every mistake it's $20 off your pay. This union here you must be able to site read your instrument and make every date that you agree to.
