Hey Linelle and yes, that's quite annoying. I have somewhat of an advantage because it's my family who's the band but now that we have everything miked and supposed to come through the monitoring system, we have to keep in mind of the volume.  It's annoying when you can't hear yourself through the monitors too and you have an expensive sound system with non- cooperating sound techs....LOL!  Oh and good to see you SugeHeights....I thought you disappeared because I haven't seen you on here ;)

im glad that i don't have that problem. It just me and a drummer.

Ive had to deal with this for the last 13 years or so.  :D I just let them do their thing. Funny thing is if I happen to be on the louder instrument and they put me in a bad moodeverybody wants to quiet things down.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

The best thing is have them monitored or hook to sound system and lower the volume when they decide to get loud. As least, you can control the volume instead of complaining of loud volume and telling the musicians and they are not complying
Yeah...monitoring is vital. I always have to get on my bass player for rattling the church windows...lol The best experience I've had is at Worthington Christian Church in Columbus to where every one had a headphone mixer and could control their own mix. If the guitar, drum, keys, or horn player was too loud through your mix then you turn that particular instruments line down or cut him off completely in your mix. When our church grows to the point we can do that, I've got to make that happen.

We have an expensive sound system too. Everything is miked. The organ leslie is actually on the puplit. I think the other guy turns the keyboard mix up louder than the organ. I could be wrong. I would rather only hear myself coming out of which ever monitor is near me. If Im playing organ I dont want to hear the piano coming out of the organ monitor. I can hear the piano from the piano monitor. When everything gets going I hear the keys for the most part and can barely hear myself on organ. I dont think its the sound person's fault.

always hate it when I can't hear me. all that practicing and for what ? what's that about ? especially when it's my turn. of course, when I can't hear the singing while I'm accompanying, then that time sucks. People can't hear teh message in the music and carryin' on. Might as well get outta there and work at I -hop or something.

Well, i went to this church a month ago.
I couldnt even tell that there was piano / keyboard..(i know this is bout organs..but here, very few churches do organ :()

I was very irked  :-\>:( because the bass, drums & guitar (voices a bit) was all one could hear..
I could c that the keyboardists were playing, but it looked dumb coz one couldnt hear a think.

I looked @ the Roland RD700 & the Motif xs8 & thot: what a waste of $...& the players' time!!

Aviom, my brothers and sisters.  It is a 16 channel in ear monitoring system.  You hear the mix you want to hear....

Aviom is tight.

another alternative is the Hearback system from Hear Technologies.  I'm installing one myself.

I haven't had the chance to use those yet.  I know that SHure has in ears that you can dial in a sub mix.  The point I guess is that if we could get people to just control their on stage volume a bit, there would be no need for such elaborate devices.  I wonder if these window shakers can actually here anything but themselves and if not what is the fun in that?  That is not music, that is ego...
