This really should be common sense, but here are a few things to consider when naming your baby...
- I'm all for biblically sound names... but do you think your child will really appreciate that name? You know, one of the ones that most folks trip and stumble across during scripture readings? Let's mix in a lil' common sense with that extra-holiness, mmmkay?
- You attend church barely on holidays, and don't touch a bible in between... so before you just go picking out a name from the Word at random, how about you at least ask someone who would know if the name you're picking is that of a "good" or "bad" person? Little Jezzie thanks you in advance.
That's all for now.
AMEN!!! I know there's a DJ on a local radio station w/ the name "Delilah". Who would want to name their kid that? They obviously must not read their Bible or at least read the story about Sampson and Delilah. Delilah may sound like a "pretty" name but Delilah in the Bible was a bad character. When people here the name, they think of the story in the Bible about her and Sampson.
Just use common sense people. Don't name kids after bad characters in the Bible, i.e. Delilah, Judas, Saul, Herod, etc...
In Bible days, names and their meaning were very important. They're so important, some people's names were even changed. Proverbs says that "a great name is better than great riches". Also, the Bible has a lot to say about the power of words. God changed Abram's name to Abraham (which means "father of nations"). Abram had God's promise for 24 yrs, but after God changed his name, he got the promise (Issac) a year later. God had to change his name so that he'd stop seeing himself childless and be reminded of the promise every time he'd hear his name.
Also, a couple of other people that got their names changed: Simon changed to Peter (means "rock") and Saul to Paul.
Names do mean a lot. I've known of people that live up to the meaning of their names.
God bless!
