This is the time for all of our multi-millionaire pastors who show us all of the material "blessings" to come forth and share their blessings with this man.  It's time for people to represent what they teach and sing about.

It is real easy to spend other people's money. How do you know if someone is helping him? Just because someone doesn't run out & say what they are doing should not allow us to judge thier actions. By the way they are taking donations from everybody, since you feel so moved on the issue of donation. ::)

And the pastors speak out! ;) ;) :) :) LOL

You know what though, I know what he's talking about. I've seen some BISHOPS get up to raise an offering, telling people they'll be highly blessed and NEVER put anything in. Maybe they did it in secret, but it just doesn't look right if every time there is an offering, people NEVER see you put anything in. Don't ask me to put something in, if you're not even reaching for a penny! That falls into the practice-what-you-preach or be-a-living-example message.

First of all, why do people have to be seen giving?  Secondly, I hate offering time in the middle of service.  I think offering time should be anytime except during service.  Before or after.  Any day of the week.  But I guess you would get bigger offerings if you convince people to give while youre fresh on their emotions.   :(

You're missing my point. I'm not saying that people have to be seen giving, per se. It just looks bad if no one sees a person giving and they're always asking others to give, especially for those "special" offerings. Don't mistake my post for cynicism.

In the example you gave, I 100% agree with you, but in the case of putting the responsibility on multi-million dollar pastors, bankers, lawyers, etc is not fair. Who are we to legislate what someone should do with their income. I pray for Pastor Coley that he gets the help he needs but who is to say how much money he has since he is a very sucessful artist himself?

Only thing I have to say is that he would've been better off asking each of his 250,000 fans to contribute $1.00.

According to most studies, 80% of the church's income is given by 20% of the churchgoers. Most of the 20% will give a minimum of $5 just to make it worth the stamp and effort (and to make themselves feel good about giving more than was asked). That would give him the money he needs, and probably a little more.

If I were coordinating this drive, I would've asked for $1.

I would also consider hitting the major gospel industry cities and doing a few "tribute" fundraiser concerts.

All in all, I just don't think that e-mail is going to be as effective as it could've been. At most, some A-, B-, and C-list artists will write a check...

Now that is a rational way to approach this situation. ;)

Not to bypass the topic at hand BUT I think it is amazing how quickly people make statements like the one I quoted. Its almost like there is a sense of recentment that men (and women) of God are blessed. Somebody up in here need to read about the blessing in Deut 28.

Not that Michael Jackson is the best example, but he wrote a song that I think the body of Christ should live by: Man in the Mirror.

Instead of looking for the wealthy to do something, start with doing what you can do. I am gonna get off my soap box but this is a major problem with our thinking and a key reason why many in the so called body of Christ are so poor financially, let alone spiritually.

just my 2 cents

Didn't I already post about this a week or so ago?

Dorinda charges $9,000 for a solo appearance.  Pastor Coley is a few thousand dollars more, and I KNOW this to be true (unless he had a 50% off sale in the past few years or so).

WHAT ABOUT THE RECORD LABEL?

Is it FAIR to ask people who pay for your expensive tickets and buy your CD's to help you in the time of "need" too?

I want the man to live and be healed, but some of the people who support these artists are dirt poor.  Folks have to miss paying bills to go to some of their concerts and reap the consequences with the collectors later (don't front, y'all).

I listen at the convocation every year as Dorinda (excuse me....evangelist Cole) makes her plea for all the men to give $10 and watch God give them back $10,000 in seven days.  The killer part is when she says "and I know what the Lord told me, so if you don't get it back come and see me and I'll give your $10 back to you"!  Gets me every time!!!

Come on y'all!

There are some aspiring artists on LGM.  We should let this be an example to us.  Yes we have to live and survive and can't do everything for FREE, but some of these "honorariums" are ridiculous.

And if YOU are the artist and YOUR voice and/or talent is being PIMPED by a label or promoter, it shouldn't be your poor supporters' job to re-pay you what your pimps took!!!

When one of the choirs in Memphis recorded (I think I said this in the other post) last November, I walked up to him to speak to him and tell him how honored I was to finally see him in person.  I was so full of joy.  He honestly looked at me as though feces was dripping from my nose or something!  Now, all of a sudden you wanna play on my sympathy to make me give as much as I can for an operation?

We have a store in Memphis that buys back CD's.  I have almost everyone he's ever recorded because it was an honor just to hear him sing (before last November).  I should sell them all back and send the results as my donation!

Aspiring artists: Let this be a lesson to you to be careful.  You never know when you're gonna need the very people you try to shun once you make it.
