Weekend Shed.....December 21
« on: December 21, 2007, 12:48:30 PM »
Fellow Bassists,

As Christmas nears it is my prayer that we are ever mindful of the real reason for the season.  Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your son Jesus, the greatest Gift of all.  Lord we ask you to grant traveling Grace to those who are traveling this Holiday season.  Bless and anoint each of us who will be playing at services and programs, that our playing will be a blessing to those who hear.  Amen.

Shamelessly borrowed from Que:  NOW GO FORTH AND THUMP IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!!!!!

Merry Christmas to All.

i been here. aint much going on. after the youth day the choir seems to be on this tip that we dont need rehearsal no more. that seems to be the frame of mind throughout the church. the adult choir hasnt had rehearsal since their choir day which was at the end of september.

so basically every sunday since, i've been playin it by ear. no new songs to learn, nothing to look forward to, and nothing to dread either. so i dont know what to expect till the people open their mouths on sunday morning.

hopefully all this will change for the new year. im prayin that it will.
For my God... let "Golden Axe" prevail.

Today we had the annual Christmas program.  The choir sings traditional Christmas songs throughout, so I had to quickly learn/review everything from "The First Noel" to "We Three Kings".  Most of them were in the African American Heritage Hymnal but the keyboardist didn't always play the songs in the keys they were written.  I am thankful that I know the numbering system and my fretboard!  I felt like a musical director because I was calling out keys to two different keyboardists.  Ah, if we would only practice before these things.

Merry Christmas to All.  May you get something bass-related for Christmas!

Ok brother, just checking...you and dhag are the two original weekend shedders and I always look forward to your input and thoughts...I feel ya though...I have had a break for almost two months at church. I have played only on 1st sunday for november and december. The women sang today and had everyone in the Christmas spirit. I am looking forward to the New Year and also improving on my bass playing skills. This sight has helped me to grow a great deal....

Anyway, stay prayed up my brother, God has plans for you and the practices and other things that are important will come. Trust me on that. I went three years without having musician practices, etc...and then God sent us a new MOM and we did a 360......
May God's Grace & Mercy smile upon you!

Ahhh! Nothing like knowing progressions! Way to go dhag...My bass gift won't come until after the new year...I don't know what it will be though. I haven't made up my mind yet. I was at GC on saturday and ran into dfwkeys....he caught me thumpin on the schector 4 string....I would love to get a 5..it felt so good...now I see what everyone has been talking about....I want to get setup  so that I can record on my computer and try and add something meaningful to the sight like DWbass..although with his latest funky licks I might be better off just listening...LOL!

Hey did your kids get to play any today?

Knowing progressions and being able to read music are my aces in the hole.  I can't slap, pop, solo, or play shout runs but I can open a hymn book and play what's written or if the need arises play the same song in a different key.

I too want to start recording myself but primarily so I can build a library that's more accessible and easier to share than my tapes made with my $20 GE tape recorder. :)

I got a $25 gift certificate to my local store...new strings here I come!

Finally, thanks for asking about Austin.  He played drums on the benediction song.

quebass, that schecter is where its at. i love my 5. the output is a bit weak in my opinion, but you can use the eq on your head/combo amp to remedy that a bit. but i had the experience during the christmas concert rehearsals of coming through the board and through the house and i didnt have much options (i had to switch to my fender). but electronics can be swapped. you cant swap feel!!!!!

so hopefully i'll get a chance to get a new aguilar pre put in before the new years eve service next monday night.
i also plan on buying a multitrack USB recording device (i been doin some research) so i can record stuff better than my makeshift setup. been workin on some songs and its a hassle to hook up stuff to record from the keyboard, then unhook that and connect my bass through my amp so i can record the bass. plus most of those come with better software than im using now so next year i'll be puttin it down. (and maybe if God bless me with a girlfriend that can sing, maybe she can come over and lay down some vocals.) but one step at a time. LOL.
For my God... let "Golden Axe" prevail.

So are you saying that you don't have a girlfriend, or that your current girlfriend can't sing? ::)

When you get your recording equipment and software setup, please share with me what you're doing.  I'd like to start recording myself too.  But what others are already sharing is so awesome my playing would sound like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in comparison. :)
