Sounds good bro!!!
BFBT - Bro what you know about these old school drummers? LOL
Seriously, when I first started playing, ( Iam really a horn player* trombone, baritone & tuba, I never had the opportunity to play drums until I graduated high school '84) my music teacher would give me books and magazines on jazz and classical music and some albums as well. I read about and listened to alot of different drummers, Carlos Vega being one of them. Bro, you just took me back down memory lane
The old school cats made me who I am. Clyde Stublefield(James Brown) and John "Jabo" Starks(James Brown) are my biggest influences. I was playing ghost notes back in high school(mid 80's). When "Poison" by BBD and "It's Real" by Jams Ingram were hot, I was somewhat of a local celebrity because I could play them on the kit. Some of the drummers that have influenced me over the years are as follows.
Clyde Stubblefield
John "Jabo" Starks
Jonathan Moffett(The Jacksons, Cameo, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Elton John)
Zoro
The Late Yogi Horton(The Late Luther Vandross)
The Late Jeff Porcaro
Dennis Chambers
Omar Hakim
Vinne Colaiuta
Abe Fogle(Guy, Najee, D'Angelo, Chico DeBarge)
J.D. Blair(BeBe and CeCe Winans, Take Six, Shania Twain...The brutha wearing the ski goggles)
Ricky Lawson
I would keep going, but that's another thread. These guys taught me to respect the music and the band when I play unless someone decides to "give the drummer some." Sorry if I have hijacked...........
Anyway, CVJ, you're good. I can appreciate you respecting the music instead of trying to show all that you can do and leaving everybody else behind you. In this day and age, you're a rare breed. Keep uo the good work. I'll probably look up and see you on TV one day.
