...what kind of:  A.) Kit are you using  B.) Snare  C.) Heads

...keep reppin' CVJ.  I agree with M'Doza though, the bass player sounds real good papa.  God Bless.

I'm there with yall.

If you don't mind me asking, are you the son of fellow drummer the Late, Great Carlos Vega?  If so, he was off the heezee.  I just saw him over the weekend on and old episode of Saturday Night Live playing for James Taylor.  I also remember seeing him playing for Sheena Easton in a few videos.  If you are his son, I'm sure he's proud of the legacy you're continuing.  If not, that's a great name to have just the same.

....Wow Dude!!!  Not a lot of cats know about Carlos Vega.  He's truly missed.  That dude's feel for music was crazy.  He was like a Latin Jeff Porcaro with blazin' chops. Truly missed but not forgotten by the right people, ya know?

Thanks man! I know... the bassist used to play with Anthony Hamilton. If you look for the clip of Anthony Hamilton on Dave Chappelle show on youtube... he is the one playing the keyboard (sick keyboard too).

Thanks again man! I like to keep it pretty simple... but fills are a must most the time.

To answer your questions:
A: I wish i knew... but that kit was made up of like three different drumsets... lol.   EXCEPT...(b:)
B: i was using MY DW Maple Snare 13"
C: Evans Coated AMB with a hazy. (remo on the other toms i think)

No man... Just got lucky with a great name. I wish... but its a great for discounts at GC centers.. lol... AND great when i meet famous drummers/musicians....
But thanks.

Sounds good bro!!!

BFBT - Bro what you know about these old school drummers? LOL ;D
Seriously, when I first started playing, ( Iam really a horn player* trombone, baritone & tuba, I never had the opportunity to play drums until I graduated high school '84)  my music teacher would give me books and magazines on jazz and classical music and some albums as well. I read about and listened to alot of different drummers, Carlos Vega being one of them. Bro, you just took me back down memory lane 8)

Jeff Porcaro is one of my biggest influnces.  I still listen to him on the regular.  I got so many recordings he has played on.  Toto, Boz Scaggs, Donald Fagen, Michael Jackson etc.

The old school cats made me who I am.  Clyde Stublefield(James Brown) and John "Jabo" Starks(James Brown) are my biggest influences.  I was playing ghost notes back in high school(mid 80's).  When "Poison" by BBD and "It's Real" by Jams Ingram were hot, I was somewhat of a local celebrity because I could play them on the kit.  Some of the drummers that have influenced me over the years are as follows.

Clyde Stubblefield
John "Jabo" Starks
Jonathan Moffett(The Jacksons, Cameo, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Elton John)
Zoro
The Late Yogi Horton(The Late Luther Vandross)
The Late Jeff Porcaro
Dennis Chambers
Omar Hakim
Vinne Colaiuta
Abe Fogle(Guy, Najee, D'Angelo, Chico DeBarge)
J.D. Blair(BeBe and CeCe Winans, Take Six, Shania Twain...The brutha wearing the ski goggles)
Ricky Lawson

I would keep going, but that's another thread.  These guys taught me to respect the music and the band when I play unless someone decides to "give the drummer some."  Sorry if I have hijacked...........

Anyway, CVJ, you're good.  I can appreciate you respecting the music instead of trying to show all that you can do and leaving everybody else behind you.  In this day and age, you're a rare breed.  Keep uo the good work.  I'll probably look up and see you on TV one day.

...dude, on the real, I want you to know that for the last six months that I've been reading Modern Drummer, all of the greats have been constantly telling the younger drummers to go back and listen to ......."Old Skool" drummers.  Dude, that's all I've been doing.  I've come across many and am studying...........Lenny White and David Garibaldi. ;)

Man, I've been trying to do the same thing on here.  But because they're not "blazing," then it doesn't appeal to the younger generation.  I posted a James Brown clip a while back and told them to listen to how the drummers were driving the groove extra hard and how that made the song more than chops ever could.  I don't believe I got one response at all to that thread.  You just keep on studying.

DUDE!!!!!!!! Man, you have just given me the best compliment I have ever heard.  I'm humbled and honored to even be close to Carlos.  This guy is one of the cats that I really look up too.  He's one of those down low cats that just worked and changed the game.  That's how I would love to be remembered too LOL.  Don't need the spotlight, but would love to offer something new to the music community.  J thanks again man!!  I know you've been in the garage and can't wait to see your progress when I head down there in March!!!!  Take care and God Bless.  You're the man.   Take care and God Bless.

Carlito

p.s. Everyone on LGM for real listen to the older cats!!!  They are seasoned pros and offer sooooo much, just have that open ear and listen to what they are doing and what they ARE NOT doing.... Sometimes we get to caught up with all these licks and stuff, but listen to the nuances and the details and you'll find out why they keep getting called back!!!!
