Roundwounds or Half Rounds?
« on: December 31, 2007, 02:38:48 PM »
I am re-stringing my SX passive 5-string Jazz Bass.  I play through a Fender Bassman 100 combo that is lined out to the church's sound system.  I play with both pickups set at the same level and the settings on my amp are most often set flat across the board.

Any input is appreciated.  Happy New Year! :)

Perhaps I should also add that the string brand is D'Addario.

Try them both - see which you like better. The roundwounds will give a brighter sound, the half-round will not eat up the frets, fretboard (and your fingers) as quickly.

I run D'Addario half-rounds on the Gibson RD Artist 4-string (originally, I used RotoSound rounds), and RotoSound rounds on the Epiphone Les Paul 5-string.  Half-rounds are not as easy to locate, especially in 5-string.

Some of the sound will also depend on the setup on the bass.
