Anybody wanna take a shot??!?!
« on: December 26, 2007, 10:28:18 PM »
Sorry  posted this in the wrong catagory

Been looking for this song forever. Can't find sheet music anywhere. anybody know this one. heres how it goes

http://cardra.imeem.com/music/GRvy3OWV/john_p_kee_where_the_spirit_of_the_lord_is/

this one is harder becuase it's difficult to catch the bass line. Heres a weak attempt.

this is written in 6/8 time with each note being held for an entire measure
B, B, Db, Db, Ab, Ab, Db, Gb

this is a very waterred down bassline and I know there is some gravy in between each of the notes in the actual song but I am trying to dissect it and I thing that is what the bass does for most of the song.

This version sais John P. Kee...can't hear it from work, but I believe Kirk Franklin also did this song on one of his CD's

It was in the Key of Db

The bass line goes something like the following...I'm not at a board right now, so I'll correct mistakes and post chords later today if noone else has already posted.

Db - F - Gb - Ab back to Db

Following your lead. Might as well do it the correct way, so they won't look crazy when they see it.

Thanks! Had I started out with these I probably could have made it further. I tried to jump right into "phat stuff" and lost the meat of the song....an amatuer mistake.

BTW, i don't mean to sound like a sap but I used mostly major and minor chords (nothing fancy) until last christmas when I heard somebody play at a service. the whole concept of "phat chords" blew my mind and ever since I try to fatten up everything...even stuff that shouldnt be fattened up. Just a heads up as to why songs like this are so hard for me to pick up. So bare with me Im new here

Don't feel bad at all man, 90% of my chords are basic major and minor chords.  The key is changing the bass note(s) so that when you put both hands together, you have your 7th, 9th, etc. chords.  I use phat stuff only when necessary to add a lil color to the music.  Other than that, I keep it real simple, very easy for playing in every key.

I believe that 95% of what even the advanced players do. You just have to know placement.
