Help me with the Chord changes to this song
« on: December 30, 2007, 06:18:00 PM »
"You are the Living Word"

on guitar in the key of Eb

This is how I play it.  I won't do the tabs now 'cause I'm on a time limit.  but here it goes

*The lyrics might not be right :D*

Bread of heaven

Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D

That's what we call you

Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D

*words I don't know*

Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D

Bb - Cm7 -  ?/? ?/?

But I can't figure out the last change up but I know it ends on the 4, which is Ab

help a brotha out!!!

Gib...

We've never played this song....but here's my quick Redskins-Dallas post game thoughts just by picking up my guitar and goofin' with what I *think* is that progression.

I'd start with something like this for the basic part:

e---(6)----------------------------------------
B--- 6 --- 9 --- 11 -----------------------------
G--- 8 --- 8 --- 10 ----------------------------
D--- 8 --- 6 ---- 8 -----------------------------
A--- 6 -----------------------------------------
E--------- 8 --- 10 ----------------------------

Well, since those second two chord forms work out so well, I'd just continue dropping it like this:

e---(6)------------------------------------------------------
B--- 6 --- 9 ---- 11 ---- 8 ---- 4 ---- 6 ---- 3 ---- 4----- 4--
G--- 8 --- 8 ---- 10 ---- 7 ---- 3 ---- 5 ---- 3 ---- 3 ---- 5 ---
D--- 8 --- 6 ----- 8 ---- 5 ---- 5 ---- 3 ---- 3 ---- 1 ---- 6---
A--- 6 ------------------------ 3 ---------- 1 ----------- 6-----
E--------- 8 ---- 10 ---- 7 ---------- 5------------ 3---- 4-----

Not that I'd finally play it with those inversions, but you should get the idea of how I hear the motion and the use of that repetitive chord dropping.

It's basic, but see if this works for you and spice it up as needed.

I think you're in a hurry and using that first Cm7 caused you to miss the forest for the trees that you would have normally spotted immediately.   8)

*words I don't know*

 ?/? >:( ;D :-\

"Many things You were on earth, a Holy King, a carpenter"

Your chord progression should be:

 Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D
Bread of Heaven
 Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D
Sent down from glory
 Eb2 - Cm7 - Bb/D
Many things You
G/B  -  Cm7  -  F/A  -  Bb  -  Eb/G  -  Ab
were on earth, a holy king, a carpenter, but You are the living Word
Music theory is not always music reality.
