When the time is right, you will get your opportunity.  In the meantime, just keep on perfecting your craft.

I understand exactly how you feel. I'm not playing as much as I would like right now either because some new musicians joined our church. I feel like I was basically kicked to the curve by my own church and I hate feeling that way. I also know and understand that God knows exactly what he's doing. We have to just trust and believe that somehow this is going to work out for our good. In the meantime, I have been studying harder than ever and I continue to perfect my craft just like 4hisglory said. I absolutely hate not being able to play as much, because playing is my passion. But again I trust that everything happens for a reason.

Have you discussed this with your pastor or music leaders at your church?  Maybe you should talk to them and ask them if you can play more during service.  Also, church ain't the only place where you can use your gift of music to minister.  Maybe you can play at special functions other than church.

Like others said, your gift will make room for you in due time.

i definitely know your situation. All along i wanted to become my church's musician. I had asked a long time but never got the opportunity until this year. I have to keep asking and asking until i finally get the opportunity. I believe that you will become a full time musician in God's time; you just have to be patient. I understand how you feel, but i suggest that you pray to God about it. Also, you can talk to your pastor or First Elder about it.

Before you know it; i am a full-time musician!

God will make a way to use your talents and gifts if you really want to use them. Just have faith and patience and you will be amazed. God will open doors of opportunity for you.

Churches have a tendency to fall in love wit the latest "hot" musician that comes through town.

Just  continue to practice (like everyone else has said).   What usually happens is that the new person woll only stick around until the next "hot" spot opens up.  then they will move on.

Nw everyone isn't like this, sometimes you'll get a musician who will stay on,   be willing to teach you some tricks of the trade, and will bring you up to the next level.   If this happens,   enjoy the ride.  Otherwise, just continue to practice and IF your church is being led correctly,  they will come to recognize the value of being "ministry minded" vs, always seeking the new hotness.

If they don't come to that realization,   maybe its not the place where you need to be grounded.

I know how this is and can be, trust me many musicians have been in this situation before, but God has a plan for us all but we have to wait. Be patient, and your time will come. T-Block also mentioned that there are other places that you can express your talens at, and I would also recommend that you talk to your pastor, the minister of music, and see if all of the musicians can share some of the playing time. While everything is being resolved, continue to work on your craft, because enevthough GOD gives us talents, we must continue to work on them and improve. Your time will come, but you must be ready.

People People, People... this is a spirit. Most musician coners are nothing more than talent show- jam sessions. You need to seek God. It is not by chance that you are sitting and it is also not by chance that you are  feeling so hurt by it. God has given you the heart of many other overlooked musians. Let's be real..... they don't think you are good enough for the competition. Get in your room and practice. Also begin to pray against the spirit of competition "Liviathan." Sometimes people are full of pride and are afraid to share "THEIR" glory. God has anointed you. Pray for wisdom and direction. It's time out for "Wait for you season." That's a trick. They bible says be instant (in and out of season). Every season is your season. All you have to change is you clothes. It doesn't change the season, but it sure helps you endure it. God has a pattern, a heart beat, if you will....for your life. DOn't let the church fool you. God has a callin on your life and your season is NOW. Like someone said earlier. Church is not the only place you can play. Step out and be an individaul. You will be suprised at how many doors will open. I better stop before I get myself in trouble. God bless!!!

Hey, don't feel bad. There are many other church that are always looking for musicians so you will get PLENTY of other opportunities to play for other churches. But in the meantime, just keep practicing and keep perfecting your skills.

Wow, y'know this just goes to show that the Bible is always right. 1 Cor 10:13 in paraphrase says that there is nothing you have gone through that other people have not gone through and that God will show you the way out of any temptations.

I know exactly how you feel. I want to play so desperately for my church and the dude that currently plays the keys is, at best, manageable. He used to be a singer but then our old keys player left and for some reason, everyone thinks he can play the keys. The bassist does ALL the work and has to cover for him.

The biggest thing you have to watch out for on your part is resentment. Pray to God against resentment cuz that stuff will eat at you and leads to hate. You'll feel angry and prideful. Whenever its praise and worship time, instead of doing just that, you may feel like you deserve to be up there and be critical of every thing in the service. There is no guarantee that you will do things any better I know this from personal experience, be very careful and pray.

Also, like was said, continue practicing so that whenever you are called upon, you won't falter and give people evidence for doubting you in the first place.
The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.

Hey man the best way that I can tell you is to just keep ypur head up and look to God. I started out on the drums and people wouldn't have thought that I would excel this fast yeah there will always be haters that's how you know God is in it, because the devil will try and put stumbling blocks in your way. Just as someone said earlier there are Millions of Churches but not very many musicians so stay on your insrument, pray and seek God and it will be alright. God Bless!!!

I'm just a singer & I DEFINITELY know the situation you're in.  What keeps MY head up is:  I'm not doing it for recognition or anything. I do it bkecause I LOVE IT!!  Love it like I love breathing.  Like some of the other folks on here have bkeen telling you, don't stress the spotlight.  Just find ya lil' niche & do ya lil' bit.  Everything else will/shall/should fall into place.   ;)
