More Info

Advanced Sound Engine
Driven by a powerful new audio processor, the Fantom-G provides new sonic depth and versatility. With twice the wave-ROM capacity of its predecessor, it contains a treasure trove of Roland’s world-famous SRX-quality sounds, but what really sets this instrument apart is its new ARX expansion, which allows additional SuperNATURAL sound-sets and fully dedicated synth and effects engines to be added to this already powerful live workstation.

SuperNATURAL™ ARX Expansion
Fantom-G provides ARX slots that accommodate two SuperNATURAL expansion boards. SuperNATURAL is Roland’s unique behavior-modeling technology that enables a new level of organic, emotional expression previously unattainable in synthesizers. Applied to traditional-instrument sounds, SuperNATURAL enables the delicate, organic tonal changes and playing nuances of real musical instruments. It’s also a powerful tool for electronic and non-traditional sounds, breathing amazing new life and expression into synthesis.

Power Sequencer Onboard
The Fantom-G is the first Roland instrument to feature Roland’s newly designed power sequencer. In conjunction with the large-size LCD, this pro-level composition tool provides 128 tracks (including 24 audio tracks) in a fully intergraded audio/MIDI graphical environment. A mouse can be also incorporated for computer-like speed and ease. Other convenient features include combo XLR and TRS connector, phantom power for condenser mics, Hi-Z input for guitar and bass, and line input.

Luxurious Extra-Wide LCD
One look and touch and you’ll know that the Fantom-G is an instrument without equal. Only the highest-quality materials have been used to create this dream synth, with a stylish, futuristic design that will turn heads. Front and center is the extra-large 8.5” wide TFT color LCD for enhanced productivity. A first-class assortment of hands- on controls is provided as well, including eight sliders, four knobs, and ten buttons below the LCD.

Amazing FX
Fantom-G is loaded with a state-of-the-art effects engine, with multi-effects available for each Fantom-G sound/part. In 16-part multi-timbre mode, up to 22 effect routings can be used simultaneously. Create complex setups with 16 insert effects per multi-timbral patch group, plus global reverbs and choruses. Mastering effects are provided for polishing songs created with the onboard sequencer.

Supreme Keyboard Feel & Action
The Fantom-G8 is outfitted with Roland’s top-of-the-line PHA II “Ivory Feel” keyboard. This amazing keyboard technology reproduces the real surface feel of ivory acoustic piano keys providing a familiar stability and comfort to the pianist. The white keys have a two-piece structure which reduces the developed keyboard surface material is designed to absorb moisture, ensuring a secure, slip-proof feel that your fingers will love.

They should just improve the current MOTIF rather than making a whole new one

They aint gonna come out wit a new motif.  they just came out wit the XS.  yamaha done slipped....peep game:

fantom and Motif were on the same level...........both were really sweet.

fantom s and Motif ES came out around the same time.....were good as well. Th fantom s had some sort of problem though, so it got discontinued..................

fantom X comes out................DESTROYING the keyboard world..........really bad.  Yamaha looking for answers. So................

last spring/summer yamaha comes out with the XS to catch up to the Fantom X.  its good but not really that much different that the es.

Now the fantom G??????????? Lol Roland is about to dominate like the bulls in the 90's

The motif xs just came out like 9 months ago, they aint givin us a new Motif for a while. They need to fix the display, when you scroll though it, it acts and looks very wierd, So I'd rather Save the 1500 and go with an ES8

mane, cats aint payin 9 geeeez for no keyboard. TRUST.

Yup, the only people buyin those are Studios, Big producers, Wannabe Big time producers and Touring artist who have roadies to carry it for them, Those things are HEAVY

dudes...dudes..........dudes..........t here is no way that yamaha is comin out wit a new board so soon. They would lose soooooooooooooooo much money.  When yamaha comes out with new board they get rid of the old ones.  They just discontinued the ES series and to get rid of the XS this soon? Never happenin.  I personally feel lthat yamaha could have waited this extra year to come out.......seeing how the XS really isnt that much of an upgrade to the ES

So much other stuff goes into it to.  Yo got the rich preppy kids (I know enough) that suck but are gonna see that ist the hottest board and go cop it. It has horizontal pitch bend...the improved colored screen...easy navigation.  Those are the things that yamaha never seems to figure out but roland always hits on.  I OWN a motif and it took me like 4 days to lear how to navigate through the sounds and performance mode.  it took me like 4 hours on my boys Fantom X

Korg lol..........well................the oasys is nothin but all there boards packaged into one so all you need is a karma and one of the tritons.
The M3 is their big board now. Reality is....a lot of cats buy based on what they see the pros play.  Thats why sooooooo many cats got motifs for nothin but pianos (I dont get it......learn ya board) And if you go like that I still see cats hittin on triton studios. like I said......roland is about to crush.

So Metro,
U reckon the Fantom G will rule in all the fields from the piano, organs, synths & all & 1 should rather settle for it?

U seem to know them all quite well.

i mean it ALWAYS comes down to personal preference.  Pianos? Probably about even with XS.  They have come a long way since the original fantom.  Synths? hands down not even close...........hasn't been close for a while.  Organs? Probably even again. Cant really give that in depth of an explanation because where I'm from we got organs in all our churches and studios.  no hammond on site means no organ sounds.  i did two concerts around new years for the same group.  One didn't have an organ so i played synth lead strings and brass. The other had an organ so i used it and brass. Anyways, sequencing? Roland again.

Personally, I think that yamaha got lazy after the ES.  They saw that the Fantom S wasn't really as good so they though they were straight for a while.  The fantom X was sooooooooooooo far ahead of competitiors (being the ES and Triton Extreme) that it just killed.  They are just coming out with boards to compete with the X (the XS and M3).   Now Roland is going to nbe able to take a giant leap in fron of the pack with the Fantom G.

Thanx man..I appreciate your input.

I really need to know which big board to get when I'm financially able to do so.
I want good synths (I'm told Korg has the best), the best piano  ( I'm told the XS excels, but now along comes the Fantom G which i read has "phatter' piano sounds).

I had initially looked at the Alesis Fusion 8HD, but was told that the pianos are terrible there :( are they that bad?

thanx in advance.

I have the Roland RD700SX and the pianos are off the chain (especially since I use the XLR outputs instead of the 1/4 cables). I believe that Roland and Kurzweil have the best pianos (in my opinion). I been listening to Jason White from the West Angeles COGIC lastest CD (he's the MD there with mike Bureal) He's playing a Motif ES but not even playing the sounds from it....he's using a Roland MKS20 sound module. I can tell cause my friend has one at his church. That module has to be about 20 years old now and that joker is still the best module and HARD to find these days. Mike uses the ES a lot for the piano and he uses the same sound that's on the DGX and PSR series...same sound...so what that tell you based on sound and pricing? :D

It's going to be another 3 more years till Yamaha releases a new keyboard.

The Korg Oasys is not even in the same level or class as the motif xs, fantom-g, or korg m3. It's in a class all by it self.

The price of the fantom X will likely fall a great deal within the next few months, and become a good buy. It would be nice if they would drop before the 1st of Feb, while there is still a rebate of $200.00. The price might be too good to pass up.  If there is no more difference between the X and the G than there is between the ES and the XS it would be a hard decision as to which to buy as the prices fall. Those looking for a good deal on a fantom X, new or used, heads up. People will be dumping their fantom X boards to get the fantom G. The price of the fantom X new will drop.

Thanx guys, I really like the input you all make.

I must say that I like the pianos on the Roland, I don't have the best of Rolands, but the pianos are so good, so I can imagine what will come on the top-of-the-range brands 8)

From all the posts here, i figure the Roland slightly overshadows Yamaha..
I'll just wait & c :D :D
