I stole this idea from the drum section...I wanted to see what bass players would write. Please participate...I guess I can start it off.

Well, let's see... I'm from the 70s. The first song we picked up successfully was:

1) Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry (Our break-in period)

Then we moved up to :
2) King Kong - Jimmy Castor Bunch (We were kids...)

Then we elevated to:
3) It's Serious - Cameo (This song REALLY transformed us)

Of course, there were other songs within all this but these were the songs that influenced me, along with ALL the rest of Cameo, and ALL the EWF. Til this day, I can't seem to shake off that Cameo/EWF taste in my style.

Thanks for the correction....I had Lakeside on my mind but typed Slave because I was thinking of one of their songs too..

EWF "That's the Way of The World" is another one and of course POW.....There were so many songs from the 70's that I grew up on and used to take the house broom and jam in front of the mirrow....

You're funny, dude! One time I tried to go into an SOS tune in the middle of an offering song during service and my left hand locked up! It sounded like I had MS. I was using my whole forearm to try pushing the strings down, my thumb was out of commission. And the song was still moving. I remember thinking, "Okay, I won't go there. But what about this song, can I finish it?" After about 20 seconds my hand loosened up and the pain went away. No joke...

I get a raised eyebrow, often in rehearsal, when I am just messing around with the drummer... and someone thinks its an old school - jam.
No one has accused me of playing Brick House, yet... though... LOL!
