WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE MARRIED?
« on: February 05, 2008, 02:08:34 PM »
YES...I AM UP TO SOMETHING.....

I just had a "brainstorm" for next Valentine's Day.  I am going to take 6 to 8 months and write a new play for couples (married folks in particular).

It will not be one where the man or the woman is being bashed or cheating or dogging the spouse out.

I just want to write a love story...one of those good ones that will make married folks go home and have 2:17 for the next seven days!!  In fact, for the weekend shows I may even start the show at 2:17 (so people can ask why).

So (from a GOOD perspective), what is it like?

I haven't been married for too long...
It will be 2yrs on March 26...
(Thank you God!!!)

But I will say this...
At times....
It is ROUGH!!!   :D :D
But its worth the ride...
When you're in it with someone
who you are in love with....
and that person is in love with you.

I heard this in a movie...

The rough times are the bridge
that gets you to the good times.

But then again...I'm still a rookie...
We ain't crossed too many bridges yet...
Holla at me in 30yrs.
 :D :D :D
Bunk a shout.....How you livin'??

Man, them other days are the polar opposite of heaven on earth...I strive to maintain the heaven on earth days as much as possible.

possible name ideas:

Something about being "worth the ride"

Something about a "bridge"

Ok....I'm feeling "something"...not sure what.

I'll pre-write all weekend long, and start writing seriously by Monday.

Keep'em coming!

Can somebody tell me (without oversharing) about a time when you had a ROUGH day and just seeing your spouse's face or hearing their voice on the other end of the phone made your problem(s) seem so small?

Nah.  I'm just pre-thinking.  I kinda wanna explore scenarios that other playwrights wouldn't dare touch.

To write a play that celebrates love between a married man and woman, the way God ordained - one that couples see and feel "renewed" all over again - would be something NEW for me.

I write stories where people fall in love and end up married.  But to write one (complete with love songs and everything), would be a new challenge for me.

Then, I was just thinking....giving each married couple who attends a "gift" for couples only would be an extra incentive to say "thanks for coming to see the show".

I don't have it "all together" yet.  This is LITERALLY just me pre-thinking out loud.

How bout going for a woman
thinking that her husband is cheating....
Sure as her salvation, that he's cheating...
And she finds out that the woman that was calling
him on his cell phone....
Was a travel agent putting together a surprise
vacation for them as a surprise anniversary gift to her

Just an idea....
Not that its happened to me..... ::)
Don't ask me how I know.... ;)
 :D :D :D
But I like the direction that you're going in...
Folk always wanna hear about the bad things...
The deceit and lies and scandals....
But its time we step into the glory
of honest and faithful relationships...
And be happy in relationships that are
being conducted the way God planned.
even if its just a girlfriend/boyfriend thing...
thats leading up to marriage.

Good stuff Herm...
Good stuff.

I see you see where I'm going here.  Nessa probably does too...she just ain't saying nuthin!

The only thing I see with the gf/bf thing is that if I write it the way I know I can write, they will have to cover themselves in blessed oil and pray after the curtain call.

I'm going for blood!  One of those movies like "Waiting to Exhale" where every woman who saw it felt "whole again" because she was so impacted by what she saw?

That's how I want every couple to be when they leave the show.

Really, I'd almost prefer NOT to deal with cheating at all.  I'd love for the couple to take something small and minor and blow it up into "drama central", only to realize by the end that it was never worth fighting for.

AND...

One spouse realizes that the touch of their mate's hand is extra-powerful because it's the hand that was made to soothe them.  Her man's hands may be rough, but they're gentle enough to soothe her every care when used the right way...

The wife's tongue may be a bit sharp, yet it is gentle enough to say the right thing over the phone to make a fella feel a need to take an early lunch...

Ya know?

What would you like to know?  ;)

IN SHORT?  HOW DO YOU KNOW 19 YEARS LATER THAT SHE IS "STILL THE ONE"?

WHAT IS IT ABOUT HER THAT FLOATS YOUR BOAT, MAKES YOU TICK, SENDS YOUR ROCKET INTO SEVENTH ORBIT (not sexually, just in general)?

Which brings up another GREAT point.

For the couples who are "new in the game", the play will serve as a LIVE "how-to video" for keeping the love alive forever.

Almost like an "on-stage" roadmap of sorts?

LAME IDEA #1 (thinking out loud):

Two dudes work together for the same company.  One is married but rarely talks about his marriage...he just always seems happy for some reason.  The guys at the office know he's been married "x" number of years, so OBVIOUSLY what's keeping him happy is not his wife.

The ring leader of the "investigation" (the other male co-worker) has a live-in girlfriend (whom he may have even gotten pregnant a couple of times).  He shudders at the thought of the word commitment and runs from the very thought thereof.  He feels that his life is going perfect without the "M" word and that's that on that.

Through the "investigation" to see if the co-worker is stepping out on his "Mrs.", he snoops around and catches the couple in various act (not "exactly" sexual) and finds himself wanting "what they have".

His girlfriend, who has given him countless chances to pop the question gets frustrated...packs her things....goes to.....???....the bus station??? to go back home to her parents.....

Will dude show up and pop the question in the nick of time?  Will the play end in a wedding or a revial where the girl repents for shacking and moves on with her life, leaving dude sad because he waited too late to do the right thing?
