Honestly my brothers unless your playing for an outside gig 300 - 500 watts is all you really need, anything above that your looking at losing a bit on your tone for the sake of wattage. I don't know about you but all of the compliments I get about my Axe and rig are focused on the tone I produce not how loud I was. Just food for thought.

I agree, and btw I do have my setup running in bridge mode so my single cab can handle the wattage, but I don't have to crank mine up that much at all. Even when I did an outside venue with 3 keyboards, guitar, electric drums, organ and mics all running through the house, my tone was heard and my bass was felt with me only having my volume set at half. Did I mention that I turned the DI down to really test out the rig? ;D

The reason I need alot of power due to the sheer size of our sanctuary (3 1/2 stories tall with a dome).

500 watts should do the trick definitely, but I also play outside during our camp meetings which hosts around 2-3K people, so I need the flexibiltiy with headroom due to the different areanas I play at.

So, a 300-watt head and a 4 by 10 cab should be adequate for a sanctuary that seats, say, 700?

Indeed as I stated in my initial response if your playing for Creflow Dollar or TD Jakes size sanctuary and your not utilizing the house system, then by all means the Eden 1000wt or equivalent head and associated cabs is what's-up, but for a smaller church 200 people or less my initial wattage estimate should be ample.

Here is what I rock with and it handles every situation without question, I suggest though that you consider your cabs very carefully. Meaning 8 ohms or 4 ohms the specs will explain this concept which helps you determine how much wattage you will be delivering to the cabs.

WT550 SPECS
Power 8Ω/4Ω/2Ω 300/500/750W RMS
Power Mono Bridge N/A
Distortion <.05%
Frequency Response 10Hz - 15KHz ±2dB
Headroom 3dB
Dimensions 12"W x 3.5"H x 12"D
Weight 20 LBS

Are you forced to go through the house? if not, get your rig and use it. My equipment is mine, and if I don't feel that your house system can produce the sound I'm looking for or can't handle it, I won't plug into it. Thanks my opinion.

yeah my peavey tour 700 does 700watts through 4ohms and my church only seats about 200 and i dont use full power, but i thought it would be a good investment should i do other venues, or the possibility that my church might start doing street services again in the future. i wouldnt want to have to upgrade yet again. but i understand where your coming from.

The only thing about not using a P.A. is that you tend to get loud onstage. It's one thing to have the wattage available and another to use the power 'all willy nilly' just 'cause it's there. A large church SHOULD have a P.A.

If you can afford to have more power, I say get it. I have an 800w@4ohm Yorkville that I doubt I'll ever utilize that much power onstage. If I need to be that loud, there has to be P.A. support.

I am not forced but my current rig is a Fender Bassman 100, which won't carry the room.  Add to that the fact that the sound technicians know squat about equilization.

I gotcha now. BTW, save up and get your own rig since the technicians know squat about equalization. ;D

Thanks. I am thinking a 300-watt head and 410 cab in the $500 - $600 price range. Do you have any suggestions?

maybe an Avatar with a GK Backline 600? I'm not quite sure. Others do have experience with these products, I don't.

Go for the 700RB-II or the 1001RB-II.  The 1001 will give you plenty of headroom and you'll never have to turn it past noon on the gain unless you're trying to knock down walls.

I'm being prejudicial here but I would say go to the David Eden Forum and cop yourself a used
WT 550 and if you have enough cheddar left over cop the 410XLT. You'll be thanking me later.
