And I agree on how very annoying The Jesus in Me is.... my goodness gracious if I NEVER hear that song again, it'll be too soon. Same with I Need You to Survive. *sticks finger down throat*

FYI - I think we discussed that song here once before, and came to the conclusion (maybe not collectively, but I don't recall exactly how it went down) that the song wasn't bad at all, but people didn't hear the lyrics in context.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. The theme of the song is that you see what you think is success, but nothing they got was got without much prayer and a relationship with God so please let people know that we're nothing without God. I'm cool with that... (and this is coming from a NON-fan).

I never really fell in love with "Give Myself Away" like most people.

Kiki Sheard released a song called "Boyfriend" that is the most blasphemous thing I've ever heard.

Alot of emptyness inside. "Have you ever gave God a chance?"
(As if you're lovin' someone else.) To be your man...He's my boyfriend.

For some reason i never really liked Nobody Greater and it was also a pain trying to figure out how to play it for others who sang it so i just left it alone

I think I did hear it in context.  The type of language used in the song is just too ambiguous for me to subscribe to. I was very surprised (but then not) that it was so handily received by the general christian populous.

Yeah, I've heard the entire song - a zillion times over... I hated it from the first time to the last... I just think it's a dumb song.

I can't explain it.

It just isn't natural English to say directly to a person that you're giving yourself AWAY - TO that person.... that's not away. I really can't explain it. I just don't think that before that song, there was one human being on earth who ever uttered those words. If I'm talking to you about God, I might say "I gave myself away to God." But if I'm talking to you about you, I would never say "Sketch, I give myself away to you." The natural words to use would be "I give myself to you."

Idk. It just bugs me.

I LOATHE "God has not forgot" by Tonex.  FORGOT????      PLEASE USE PROPER GRAMMAR IN YOUR SONGS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanna slap Tonex every time I hear this song.....

Giving away your life is relinquishing the things you like to do, that take time away from serving, for the things of God. He wants to use our time, lives, and resources to advance His kingdom, but often we're unavailable because of crap we're involved in that sap our energy and our time. It kind of the same concept when one is married, they give their lives (the old single lifestyle and activities that accompany it) for the spouse.

You know, I'm about 99.9% positive I've said the same thing on LGM. I even asked once "am I the only person who can't really get with a song that has a blatant grammatical error?" I'll see if I can find that post. But yeah, I totally agree with you. I really hate that song, and only for that very reason.

I didn't explain myself clearly.

Giving yourself to God is definitely not my hang-up with the song. I have given myself to God, and I continue to give myself to Him daily. I get that part.

I won't try to explain it, because as I said, I really don't know how to articulate it. It's the 'away' part.... and it's a language hang-up, not a concept hang-up.
