Ampeg SVT450H 450W Classic Series Head
« on: February 26, 2008, 10:28:19 AM »
I'm thinking of getting this head with a SVT-410HLF Classic Series. Has anyone ever played through this set up. it sounded sweet. it sounded like a tube amp but not near as heavy. Let me know what you think. also thinking about a BBE sonic maximizer.

I'm sorta anti-Ampeg with the exception of the PortaBass line. I'm not a fan of the classic Ampeg tone at all.

DWBass,  I guess this is where me and you differ in opinion prior to my current rig I promoted Ampeg, my rig was a SVT Classic all tube 300 watt head with the SVT 810 cab and an SVT 410 HLF with a back up head the B2RE solid state head. I love the sound and tone but it was heavy as Hell. Great presence handles the low B with ease as well as the mids and highs.

I hear ya. I just prefer a really clean and sterile tone. I can imagine the thunder in your old rig though. An 8x10 AND A 4x10?!?! My first amp was a Traynor all tube 50w head (not very loud but heavy) into a Traynor 2x15 cab. This was back in 1973! Not many grounded outlets back then and I used to shock myself on a regular basis! LOL!

No doubt, LOL  we have evolved the new Bassist wants a versatile but lightweight rig, something that produces the sound he requires but allows him to stay out of the chiropractors office.

That setup should be fine. I almost purchased the 410 hlf cab with the svt3 pro head before landing my eden setup.
