That was my first time seeing that. Better yet, that's my first 5 times seeing that and now my neck hurts! Too much head-bobbing! That's how you do it! Forget the 8 minute licks. It's all about flavor and that my friend was tasteful! And on top of all that, his drums sound good! Good find.
Love God. Live Long.

I seen this clip some time last week. This is where my passion lies. That groove had so much life that it was ridiculous. I have nothing against the blazing chops, in fact i enjoy them a lot, but this is where it's at for me. I aspire to have pocket this deep and sultry.
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

See when some one uses the phrase, "deep and sultry" you know they are in appreciation of the beauty of a thing. That was a "grown folk" commentary.

As you can tell from my avatar, I've been heavy on Wolfgang Haffner. That cat is a top notch blazer, but he plays pocket/groove so artistically. If you haven't heard him you should check him out. He has most definitely made on my top 5 contemporaries list.

...Oh my goodness....did yall say Wolfgang???  Now this is grown folk talk for real.  Mendoza put me on to him a few months back.  That dude is off the charts.

jfunk, you need to check out wolfgang at www.meinlcymbals.com. This cat is a true session musician. If I ever did a project as an artist and had the cheddar, he'd probably be my first call. I've watched his clips on meinl's website like a-kagillion times. As a matter of fact, I'll see you guys in a minute. I'm going to go watch them now...at least nine clips of pure heaven. ;D :'( :'( :'( ;D ;D

This reminds me of some of the Trip Hop stuff I use to listen in early 2001-2004.

You and Sugabear have started something. I had peeped him before but wasn't paying attention.

BTW: did anyone else catch that reference to "Come Together" - Beatles on the bass line especially 3 quarters into the song. Hotness!

Frankly, and in my most humble opinion, until a drummer actually starts to FEEL the music, asking someone to groove, is like asking them to write a sonnet in Sanskrit. Yeah, exactly...

...when a drummer has yet to reach the point where they appreciate & feel the MUSIC, they'll be reduced to being mere time-keepers, when they're not twirling sticks & making a mockery of the the words 'tasteful placement'...

Trust me, I know. All the technique in the world doesn't make you a musician, as far as I'm concerned. When you come to appreciate the music, then you won't feel the need to kill the groove with your over-playing. That would seem criminal, 'cause you'd be ruining your high as well...
