Help Me Out please!
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:02:17 AM »
I'm having a problem..I have a drummer who can play okay but does not change up what is being played.

Just a very generic play (snare, cymbal, pedal same repetitious sound no changes, no other tricks and I've asked the drummer to please learn how to play something else. Excuses are:  I'm never at the church or I don't have a church key etc. etc...I've even offered to come on days besides our days at church...nothing zelcht

and nothing has change and it has been 3 years now this drummer has been playing?

When I'm playing with this drummer still gets off beat is not aware of when I'm about to change the tricks I'm doing it's like I have to tell the drummer all the time.

I'm starting to get frustrated!

Any sugggestions please let me know....If I need to learn how to play the drums and then go back and show this drummer I will. I play the keys and I can't go to another level or play something different if my drummer is still in the same spot.

Also, can girl drummers where heels while playing the drums or should flat shoes be worn?

Be Blessed!

Whatever your comfortable playing in, heels or flat shoes, wear that.

As for your drummer issue... get rid of him. He'll get a revelation that he's willing to learn how to play properly & listen.

True story, happened to me.

Don't get rid of him yet. You have to find out what is most important to him. After that, point him in the right direction. Sometimes you have to be the catalyst for the change and even sometimes BE the change you want to see. Professionalism is rarely understood until it is experienced.

If the drummer doesn't want to come practice when you offer to open teh church up to him, then they really don't want to play. They are just playing "just because".  If thats the case, you will have to find somebody else. There needs to be some kind of desire to play and get better in him/her, or else you will continue to get those same generic beats.
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

Heels or flats?  I think that depends on the female drummer.  Personally, I would feel more comfortable in heels.

You need find out whether the drummer realli wants to play b4 making any hasty decisions, and if they do why they are refusing your offers to help by opening up the church.

Heels or Flats?

Personal choice, but i prefer flats...

Get the Church to invest in him and get him some lessons or a mentor from another Church in your city.
As for heels why would they want to play in heels? They already contorts the foot in an unnatural position.
Mapex Drums, Grant Custom Basses, Carparelli Basses, Istanbul Cymbals,!

Yea...my goal is to be a mentor and/or music teacher for church folk when I get proficient.  Why play in heels? I think because it's fashionable.  When it's fashion, who cares about comfort?...LOL.
