OUT OF ORDER!
« on: February 25, 2008, 01:33:35 PM »
Why do we always have to be out of order? Case in point: I went to a gospel choir concert this past weekend. Where I'm from gospel choirs are like street gangs. They have concerts so they can out-sing each other and they actually have rivalry and everything.

Here's how it went:

1) It started late, of course. I got there when it was supposed to start. Actually got there late on purpose and sat for 45 minutes.
2) When it was time to start none of the choirs that were supposed to sing were there. So, the person in charge sang a solo to waste time. And then another person sang a solo and then another person sang a solo.
3) There was no sound guy. There was so much feedback it was ridiculous.
4) They had wayyyyy too many choirs on the schedule. For one, y'all behind because you started late and then there's like 10 different groups who are supposed to sing.
5) I kept seeing people snacks. I thought they were going to the corner store but when I left I saw a glass case with drinks in it and snacks.
6) One of the leaders got up and said "Some of my choir members are outside" so I'm gonna start anyway.
7) The choir members who were outside came in during the middle of the song and got up to sing like nothing. Tacky!!!
8) They kept changing out band members for each group which is fine. But they were coming up in the middle of someone else's song to set up. Y'all couldn't chip in to get 2 keyboards and a drums set that everyone could use for the night.
8) Why we gotta be so loud? Loud does not equal anointing. It doesn't even equal intensity. More people doesn't mean a better sound. It just means more LOUD. It also means that we can't understand what you're saying. Isn't the point of gospel music the message.
9) People kept adding stuff into their songs like, "I know y'all ready to go home but ..." and "I know it's getting late but ..." and then kept singing. If you know it's getting late then wrap the song up and sit down.
10) It looked like a RuPaul convention. I've never seen so many effeminate boys at one event. Why do they gravitate to the church choir?

My spirit was grieved. I don't know about anyone else. I'm sure God was either laughing or even worse crying.

Bloody shame really. I think most of these gospel concerts are lacking clarity of purpose. There is no kind of prevailing theme running through the concerts, none of the songs tie into what the concert is all about. Inevitably, chaos follows, and there is such a lack of discipline that it is shameful to watch.

Its amazing what we Christians will take, all in the name of family. People in the world are not afraid to boo and give honest feedback. But not us, nooooo!!! We will clap and shout, lying to the person that what they did was great. If those of us who are participants to these concerts would just be honest and show our disapproval of shoddy work, then maybe we would have all this disorganization and chaos.

All the reasons I don't attend many concerts of the such, and depending on what church it's at, that determines if I'm going or not.  Just foolishness.
If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be!!!

Some of us have gotten it together, but by attending we encourage others not to get it together.  As long as talent draws more people than timeliness and efficiency, we will have this problem.

I outgrew those concerts and musicals a long time ago.  In Atlanta, I would go just to show my support and drop off my offering, then, I'd BOUNCE.

I am beginning the process of co-developing a fundraiser concert.  My first time undertaking such an endeavour.  I will keep this list posted in my notebook as sort of a "make certain this doesn't happen to you" list.  Of the concerts I've played in, I've experienced

#1, #2, #3, #4, #4, #4, #4 hopefully you're catchin' on that I have REAL issues with #4, #7, your first #8, and #9

Peace,

IRT #10 - Did they have on makeup, dresses, and the latest design in wigs?  Were they singing women's songs in women's voices even though everyone could clearly tell they were men?

If NOT, where's the correlation to RuPaul?

You have to be careful.  I feel your frustration about homosexuality taking over the church/choir/what have you, but you have to be careful.

Maybe they didn't walk with a limp, grab their crotch and say "wuzzup", but that does not make the MAN gay.  Just as those who DO walk with a limp, grab their crotches or what have you are not always straight.

If the HolyGhost told you they were gay, then I am sure you went into immediate prayer for them as PRAYER can fix any and everything.  If you are apart of that "ye which are spiritual" that the Bible speaks of, what did you do to "restore such an one in the spirit of meekness, watching yourself lest ye also be tempted"?

If there were any lesbians in the choirstand (you know, the ones who look feminine with long flowing hair and KILLER fashion skills), could you tell them, too?

You have to be careful not to confuse discernment with judgment.  I know it's easy to do.

BUT...growing up with my mom, sisters, and aunts (with not many men around for YEARS) I picked up a LOT of their ways.  But I liked girls tremendously.  How I acted and what I preferred had no bearing on each other.

If the guys didn't walk up to you (and you were a man) and approach you, or if you didn't catch them in some lewd act, then be careful not to pass judgment in the name of discernment.

Someone could say "her hair ain't all hers", or "she wears too much makeup", or "her dress is too tight and those heels are way too high" and immediately label you a harlot (the Biblical term).  But the only person who would TRULY know what you are is you (and of course, the same Holy Spirit who hopefully told you that these Representatives of RuPaul WERE as you say they ARE.

***And in no way am I defending the homosexual or their "craft".  But as someone who knows first-hand what it's like to be labeled, it kinda "gets my goat" when people do that.

Praying that your next concert will be a much better experience.  Sometimes a service can start late and the anointing can still flow...if we go in EXPECTING.

And thats the problem I have with those people. If your not gay, Be a man. Stop walking around in purple tee shirts 2 sizes to small with matchin flip flops talking with a gay  accent. There are just some things real  men dont do. :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X
