I received my DR Fatbeams and as I was installing them I noticed that I cut my B string too short.  Now me being a hard head, I forced it to work...the only problem is it didn't and it popped on me. :(

I always measure the new string against the old string and cut accordingly.

All is not lost.  You can still use that B string to smite people who grab your bass without permission or call you a guitarist....  ;D

I did that with my 4 string squier. My Schecter and the Ibanezes have/had skinny tuning post. The Squier had fat tuning post. When I was cutting the string for the Squier I was thinking the length I needed for the skinny post and I cut it and it was too short.

I always let the folks i purchased my bass from handle that for me(as long as i purchase the strings from them) .  They offer lifetime free "tuneups".
