Digital Image Resolution: Help Needed

I'm hoping i can get some help on this. I am trying to upload a picture on a website and it is refusing to upload the image. THe website specifies that the image resolution has to be 600x600 pixels (whatever that means). I don't have/ cannot afford Adobe Photoshop and the Windows Picture Manager only allows you to change the image SIZE, not the pixel size.

Are they the same thing? I tried to change the image size to 600x600 but it won't go that small i guess and defaults to 600x589 or something like that.

Is there any free photo editing software? What can i do?

You have Microsoft Office? Their picture editing program is pretty good.

Doesn't change resolution, only the size of the picture (width and height).

Acutally Pixels refer to the tiny dots that make up the graphic. When you reduce graphics by pixel you are actually reducing your resolution which means your image won't be a sharp. The more pixels you remove the worse quality gets.

I could only tell you how to resize it using Paintshop Pro.

Sistagurl, you reminded me as to WHY I HATED my Photography class and understanding Pixels versus Resolution and why you can change resolution and not destroy an image as long as the pixels remain the same...I have a BS in Graphics...a lot of that stuff is GONE--should I say 85% of it! Kinda like, I needed to know it then to graduate and thats it :o)

That's why I use the software to manipulate and calculate for me!!!
