Ok.

What's wrong with Michelle Obama? Or, more to the point, why the hate residue from your saying MICHELLE OBAMA?

Well, I dont know abotu anyone else, but I think some guys could appreciate seeing a woman, without make up, and maybe less than perfect sometimes. I found that it takes a lot of energy to walk around looking like you are going to the prom everyday, than it does to just keep it real. Dont get me wrong, men like a woman that can take care of themselves... Me personally, I go to the nail shop once a week to get my nails, feet, and or eyebrows done... I get my hair done once a week... I stay dressed nice all the time. But I dont sit around with a face full of make up looking like a manequin all day.

I think that if a man thinks you look gorgeous with your gym clothes and looking sweaty and all, he is a keeper. ;) He loves the real you... and will appreciate the made up you still...

Awww Thanks!!! Rue

It's an interesting issue for me because I was a late bloomer and I'm in a new season of my life. No one tried to talk to me for the longest. I barely got a date to the senior prom. I was quite shy. I'm a good writer so I express myself on paper really well but in person I'm much more reserved.

Here's an excerpt from a blog I put on my myspace about where I'm at right now if anyone wants to read the whole thing my address is www.myspace.com/raedini_the_one. It's called Blossom.

These days compliments are rather frequent (and always welcome) but I must say that being beautiful isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. It’s highly overrated, actually. What a beautiful woman gets from men is more quantity and less quality. You can still only be with one at a time. I could have several men in the rotation but the player’s game is not for me. The other thing is I’m still saved. My values are the same now as they were when no one wanted me. In essence I’m still on the shelf to be taken down only when my future husband comes calling.

All of that pondering brings me to this revelation. I think that God allowed me to blossom late so that he could save me from the perils of beauty. He was shielding and protecting me from the world of relationships which I was probably much too naive to handle. It is much easier to keep yourself when no one wants you. The other part of that revelation is, I think that the attention of men has picked up because it’s getting time for my husband to come find me. I almost wish it was like it was in the old days when I had no prospects. I think it would make it easier to figure out which one was the one
.

All Grown up, I'd have to agree with you. Sometimes I just don't want to be dressed up, I want to throw on some sweats and some jordans and go about my business. Some days, it seems to draw a lot of guys attention..not intentionally. I remember, I came into my job on my day off with a pair of sweats and this guy was like man I love it when girls wear sweats, you're about to make me holla at you.

On the other hand, I can't wear a scarf on my head outside and I hate being without earrings, my hair has to be done. I let my boyfriend see me with my hair tied up and I felt so uncomfortable :-[, but u get over it. I'm not a make-up girl because I always seem to rub it off during the course of the day :D :D Give me some lip gloss and I'm good to go!!

I guess it's all in the guy's preference.
Did you feed your spirit man today?

Girl, just learn to take a joke and KIM. Well, at least, MY jokes. ;) :D

Point taken.

But, that wasn't really an explanation for you, it was for HD.  I didn't want him to feel like I was teasing him or anything...  :-\  But still, point taken.  ;) (along with that annoying "clicking" noise people make when they wink.  LOL  :D :D :D)

Ok.

What's wrong with Michelle Obama? Or, more to the point, why the hate residue from your saying MICHELLE OBAMA?

On Tuesday night, when Barack and Michelle entered the auditorium to make his speech, I couldn't believe how drop-dead gorgeous Michelle looked.  That suit was to die for.  I mean, it was just to die for.  Her hair looked awesome (esp since I really hate her normal retro hairstyle).  Her makeup was flawless, her swagger was super-confident, and her smile was blinding.  But more than anything else, that suit was just to die for, and she wore it well.

I couldn't get over it because, I mean, she's a nice looking lady... always well dressed, but not really a head-turner, IMO.... and Tuesday, I just couldn't believe how stunning she looked.  Just totally classy.  Stylish.  Successful.  I was proud of how well she represented black women... but still kinda hatin on that suit.

So, I became jealous of her, and decided to hate her.  And NJ thinks it's funny.  >:(  :-\

Total cosign.  It takes work to do all that, and that's probably a part of the reason I'm such a recluse.  It takes so much effort to do all the hair and makeup stuff every day.

I am most comfortable in jeans, pumps and no makeup and a ponytail or headband or a hat or something like that.  BUT, I don't feel as good that way as I do when I'm all done up.

I guess what I'm saying is I feel my best when I'm done up, but it's not comfortable.

I don't feel my best when I'm not done up, but that's when I'm most comfortable.

Can't front, I love the 'gym clothes' look. I don't mind a little sweat either.

However, if she comes out the gym sweating like she just finished a 8k marathon in an African jungle... I'zzz will be *Exiting stage left*

If she's sweating like that now... well... ummmmm... yeahh... Forget it.

LOL!

yeah...

I guess in that first one bolded point, I should've said "....but it's not as comfortable."  I mean, any woman is more physically comfortable in jeans (assuming they fit properly... lol), or sweats, and sneakers.  It's more comfortable to have your long hair in a ponytail because it's not in your face, you're not worrying about keeping the hair in place, or frizz or humidity or anything.  It's just more comfortable to be in "chill mode."

But, when I want to look stunning, I have to do all the other stuff, the pumps, the hair, the right jewelry and accessories, the contacts, the makeup... and that just ain't as comfortable as some sweats...  :-\

Beauty is a sacrifice is what Rue is trying to say. I think everyone appreciates someone who has taken time with themselves.

Most things that women do are painful or uncomfortable in some way. Men don't notice really until you don't do it and then they appreciate that you did. I get my eyebrows waxed. PAIN! Bikini wax hurts. (So I've heard). Sitting under the dryer for like 2 hours is not fun. As a matter of fact, anything black women do to their hair is in some way uncomfortable. But Ohhhhh the end of the thing is better than the beginning! AMEN!!!

High heels are uncomfortable. Now that I'm out of my 20s I had to nix the really high heels. I heard my knee pop the other day. I think a lot of women need to downsize the heels. You don't look cute walking around like you're about to fall in some stilettos and you know your feet are hurting.

On the other hand it's an art to be able to be casual and really sexy, if I can use that word on here. You see movie stars go out looking any ol kinda way so no one will notice them and they actually end up looking more alluring. There's an art to it. The thing is to act like you don't know you look great.
