LASIK surgery anyone?...
« on: March 07, 2008, 03:36:51 PM »
Right now i'm seriously considering having this procedure done, and i must admit that i'm a little nervous about it; not worried though.

For those of you who wear glasses/contacts, i'm sure you've thought about it.  What keeps you from doing it?  I know it can be expensive, but wouldn't it be worth it?

have any of you all had this done?  thinking about it? or absolutely NEVER would do it.

Thank God I dont need glasses but I would prefer just wearing glasses.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

I've thought about it but I'm concerned about the possibility that the surgery will not produce 20/20 vision.  I think there's a screening process, but not 100% accurate.  Also there's a risk that your vision could be worse or that you could have complications and lose your sight.  I'm sticking with contacts.  They are inconvenient at times, but they work.

I, too, have considered it.  I admit a little apprehension because I think I'll be the worst candidate.  (I know, that just means that they'll decline me, worst case)  When I was in college, I abused my eyes with contacts.

Anyway, to offer input from others who have had it done:  I have a few clients who have had the procedure done.  Most of them have had it done over 3 years ago.  To a person, they have no regrets.  Two of them still wear glasses, but they're ultra thin (the glasses, that is), and they don't wear them all the time.  None of them have reported having any complications.  Hope this helps somewhat.

I've been wanting to do it for a few years now, but I guess it's not on the top of my priority list.  I've seen more than enough doctors and surgeons over the past couple of years, so I'm not in a hurry to see another one.

I know several people who have had lasik, and only one didn't achieve good results, but that one is enough to make me hesitate.  They say that it's irreversible, so if they jack you up, it usually can't be fixed.  The person I know whose surgery wasn't successful is an attorney who I worked with back in NY.  He was left with an unfixable blur to his night vision and a haze in the daytime.  I really don't think I could live with that.  I'd probably spend the rest of my days just crying.

I love my glasses, and I think I look good in them, so I'm not really in a hurry to have lasik.  But, it would be nice to be able to buy shades for the summer and not have to worry about having to get prescription lenses put in them.  And I really, really hate wearing contacts.  I pretty much only wear them when I'm going to church or out to a social event or something.

With all that said, I probably will have the consultation one of these days, and if the surgeon is also a good salesperson, I'll probably have it.
When you're in love you don't want to fall asleep bc reality is finally better than your dreams.

I too thought about it, But I dont think it would be worth the price. ($1000-5000)
I could never wear contact, cuz I dont like anything touching my eyes.
And I hate the way I look w/o glasses, So I'll just stick with some gucci frames

I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and contacts for 12.  I have definitely looked into getting the operation done, after talking to my First Lady at home and my pastor here in Roanoke, both of which have had the operation.

It also doesn't help that I've seen countless claims come in to my job requesting reimbursement from their flex medical account for the operation.

I checked into it for my daughter. The Doc just recommended it be done after Law School or she might end up having to have it redone.
