New Bass
« on: March 09, 2008, 08:52:30 PM »

DP Custom This is the 3rd bass Dave has built for me. This my ultimate.
4 string short scale, 7 piece neck maple/ebony/maple/purple heart/maple/ebony/maple
5 piece body cocbolo/maple/mahogany/maple/cocobolo
Alembic electronics and pickups
about another month to go.
What's that verse about patience? James 1:1,2,3  I believe.

I was going to get an Alembic. I speced it out with what I wanted and it would have cost over $15K. I could not justify spending that much of my "kids" money right now, as I have been diagnosed with a terminal disease (end stage renal failure). I have prayed for healing and am waiting now.  It's all good and I am thankful each morning God wakes me. I almost died 2 years ago , so every day from here on out is a blessing. I believe in my healing but I still have to make preparations for my two kids future. One in college and one in high school.
Anyway Dave worked me a very good deal. His work is excellent. I figured I better get my dream bass while I could still play. I no longer gig, just play in church occasionally.  I guess I ordered this one about August of 2007 and there is about 1 month to go. It is similar to an Alembic. Dave will not make exact copies of any other company's basses and rightly so.  I did not want an exact copy anyway. I do like their style. Plus I wanted short scale. I have always owned long scale and can play them. It is just short scale is so much more comfortable, especially at my age. I have downsized everything. Lightweight amp, lightweight speaker cabs and lightweight bass.

Thanks Rob
I got my first DP Custom about 5 or 6 years ago when Dave was first starting. Not trying to take any credit but I helped Dave with several ideas from a bass player's point of view to incorporate into his construction techniques. Dave is a great guy to work with and I don't think he would mind me mentioning that he is also my brother in Christ.

This forum is great . I feel so free on here knowing that all of you are my brothers and sisters in Christ.

That's cool Rob, no problem. How do you like yours? What do you have in it? Did you spec everything? I'm a 4 string player for the past 35 years, but everybody is saying I'm going to need a 5 string for Gospel. I played a little Gospel about 30 years ago when I was in The USAF. I am just now coming back. Is a 5 necessary?

Mine is a 5 string and I love it.

It has a Bart preamp with Mighty mite pickup. Independent bridge and plain maple body with a spalted maple top. The frett board is macassar ebony. All the hard ware is gold. The tone is very deep and mellow when I need it to be. On top of looking good, it sound good. I've been thinking about having Dave build me a new 6 string. But right family priorities have taken front and center stage. For now that is side lined.  8)

Thanks,  :) you can play a lot of the traditional gospel with a 4 string and even a few of the contemporary gospel song. But for the most part it may be wise to invest in at least one 5 string. Specially if you know you are going to be playing more contemporary gospel.  8)
