Public Display of Affection!!!
« on: July 01, 2008, 03:09:41 PM »
What up LGM!!! I was recently giging pretty heavy this week, and I was noticing the crowds to reactions to different things. One thing I noticed in the past few months after observing is that the audience, gives a better response to solos that don't include alot of rudiments. Let me state though that its not competition audience or anyone that would know alot about drumming, just a general concert artist. I mean for instance lets take some swiss army, or flam triplets and throw em in a solo, to us like woow okayyyyyy!!!!!! But to others its like, what is that guy doing. But if you do something basic like just some regular triplets displacing the accent or even single stroke roll displacing the accent around the kit its like the crowd goes crazy....huh??? Has anyone ever noticed this??? Or am I crazy??

your CRAZY!

lol. jk  :D

I think it all depends on which rudiments you use and the placement you use to do a ''solo''. i.e. You could do a single stroke around the kit and to the audience it'll sound like the craziest thing, but if you do a single stroke on the snare it'll be like oook??? what is he doing??? So for me it all depends.

Most the time it depends on the gig.

If you're playing with Ashly Simson the drum solo would be different than a gig with Herbie Hancock.

You eve notice that the simple songs always do the best? People understand them and can grasp at it because its easy to comprehend, its not over their heads. You have to know when your playing to the general public or a room full of musicians who would get the crazy licks.
Mapex Drums, Grant Custom Basses, Carparelli Basses, Istanbul Cymbals,!

Dude.........Save the drama!!!!!! Anyways I already know how to play a venue. I wasn't even refering to myself. I was bringing the point up, because I still see alot of drummers that confuse the audience. It just came back to my attention while I was playing in a venue!!! Just thought I'd share!!!!!!
