Which one:

1. Yamaha Oak Custom
2. Tama Starclassic Bubinga

Sure you can add another kit...as long as it doesn't cost 20 car notes.

Those oaks do sound good, but I think they may be a little one dimensions. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go.

Honestly, for my taste I'd go after the B/B combo kit.

And what exactly is your taste. I'm really interested in the B/B kit, but it seems like every store I've been to that has them just took them out the box and set them up. I want to hear what they sound like tuned up.

**You have been added to my Prayer List.**  :D

Suga, I would not go with the Oak Customs. You said yourself, they are possibly too one dimensional. I think you are considering them because they are Yammi's not because you like the characteristics of the wood. Then of course I could be wrong. lol.
Like JFunk, I would love to confuse you more by adding another one to the mix. . .
. . . but from what you selected, I'd go with the B/B.

...yo "E",  I got to test drive a Gretsch Renown Maple kit at a Guitar Center in Miami on Monday,  (7x8, 8x10, 9x12, 14x14, 18x22 kick)   :o :o :o  Wowza!!!

...Suga doesn't like Maple though.  I think he would love Sonor's S Classix though.  (Birch Shell)  ;)

After listening to George's clip, and the way he approached and attacked his set, I say the Tama Bubinga...

...Sorry dad but George's kit/sound will not be mine. lol  If it's going to be a TAMA, the Bubinga/Birch will be good....for me anyway.  :-\

...hey Suga, you can also seek a Yamaha Birch Custom Abs.  ;)

I am amazed at the price range of the Renown kit. It really should be priced higher. Its a great kit. One of our churches has one so I've had the opportunity to play it quite a few times.

You stole the words outta my mouf. the S Classix is one tough kit. That was going to be my suggestion.

I can't get dealer cost on Mapex because we don't sell them anymore. I wish though, because I want the walnut black panther snare. I'm going to get it anyway, I just wish it was at dealer cost.

For you, sugabear: What are the pros and cons of the sets that you're considering?  I'd compile a list with the pros and cons and determine what set you can live with after looking at the cons.

Wow. thats a great answer. There you go Sugabear! And as j_kay has said many a time, its in the fine details too. Compose your list and let us know your outcome.

The con on my kit is the waiting period. At first I thought I would have the patience, but now I'm running out.  :'(

I went to GC today and guess what. They had all three of these sets assembled on the sales floor. The salesman gave me free reign to try them out. I played with the tuning on each one and test drove all of them. I totally get the rave over the bubinga kit. That thing sounds awesome! If I would compare them to anything it would be like hearing Barry White sing a solo in a cave... a lot of low end. The oaks sound emaculate as well, but my fear was confirmed. I don't think they would work well in every situation. They're definitely not an all-purpose set. The bubinga/birch set was my favorite. I couldn't stay off that set. It sounds very similar to the all bubinga shells, it just has a tad bit more focus and a little more precise highs. The lows are rich and thick. This drum set has a really fat sound. I think I'm going to go with *drum roll*......
