Suggestions please
« on: March 15, 2008, 09:17:58 PM »
What's going on Fam?!  I need a little help from all of you gear heads here. I have been itching to learn bass and today I was able to score a 5-string Ibanez (I have no idea which one...but it is a soundgear of some sort), a Hartke HA3500 Transient Attack head, and a 2 x 10 cab from a homie who doesn't play anymore.  However, the cab has blown speakers and I'll need to replace them.  With this set up, what kind of speakers would you folks suggest.  I guess the only other info I can provide is that the head says 350 watts on it, however I'm an apartment dweller and just starting to play so a lot of volume is really not a major concern.  I just want it to sound good at low to moderate levels in the living room for now.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

Permit me a couple of questions:
1.  Why did you sell your Fender Jazz?
2.  What type of bass are you looking for to replace it?

This probably won't make you feel much better, but I have always been told that a good beginning bass is a Fender Jazz.  The made-in-Mexico models are available for around $300 used.  Also, check out www.rondomusic.com and look at the SX model basses.  Most are less than $150 including shipping.

However, the best thing to do is play as many different basses as you can--in and out of your price range--to determine what sound you like.  Play them all through the same amp with the same settings.
