Weekend Shed....April 11th
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:20:04 AM »
It is that time again, another week we have been the beneficiaries of God's Blessings!

"You should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and PLEASE GOD". (1 THESSALONIANS 4:1)

The worlds's applause cannot compare to the Lord's approval. So when you shedding this weekend at church, do it for the love of God and HIS approval, not from the MOM, congregation, Pastor or anyone else. Be faithful unto HIM and HE will be Faithful to you..

Have a blessed weekend, I am off so I will be enjoying the service with my family...

God Bless
Que....
May God's Grace & Mercy smile upon you!

Enjoy your Sunday off, Que!  This Sunday for me should be relatively uneventful from a playing standpoint.  Family, please pray for my choir.  We have some issues within and without our music department.

Will do, that is where satan first began to cause problems while in Heaven, the choir! Prayers are going up..

it was pretty good sunday. started off slow, but when the choir sang "incredible God, incredible praise" the spirit was up in there. (i even got that lick off thats on the album that i always mess up). but afterwards it was so hot in there with worship we couldnt even sing another song. then it picked up. the uptempo beat was goin and i had some foundation and thats what the pastor was flowing with.... and the organist just killed it. He started playin the slow preachin chords and it was NOT in sync with what we were playing. it was like a competition. i just told the drummer to just forget it. and we stopped and ...... blah.

my brother, his wife, and my grandmother all said i shouldve turned my bass up and kept it going, which i couldve easily done. but when im tryin to enjoy the spirit movin, why do i have to have a fight?

Our pastor is meeting with the MOM, one of our musicians, and HER FAMILY (I disagree with this one, the woman is over 60 years old).  In fact, it's her children that keep up a lot of the confusion because they feel as though they have to protect and defend her.

Thanks for your prayers, Que (and others who may have prayed as well).  Please send up a few more that tonight's meeting resolves whatever issues are present.

that's a question I always ask myself sometimes, albeit it isn't always the organists that's my problem.  I think the root problem is that people don't communicat or want to be the center of attention instead of playing together as 1 unit.

I play with a keyboardist who, I think, comes from playing in situations where she didn't have a bass player.  So she is accustomed to running bass lines with her left hand.  In her defense, she has started backing off and letting me play them, and she will even help me or make suggestions for different lines that might work better.  I am thankful that God is working on both of us so that we can work together for the good of the music.

On the other hand....she always says I play too loudly and she asks me to turn down. >:(  Since I don't go through the house anymore now that I have a new rig  ;D we have to figure out how I can generate the volume I need to fill the sanctuary while at the same time not knocking her off her bench!  We are going to try to reposition my rig at rehearsal tomorrow.

what i did was put my 4x10 away from me and got an extra long speaker cable and kept my head next to me and used the line out to go into my ampeg 2x8 200watt combo amp to use as my monitor. that way the cab is in a position to fill the house, but it isnt up on me so i use the combo to hear myself. a neat trick that comes with that is that if i dont know the song, i can just turn down the 4x10 and play through the combo till i get the song, and once i got it i turn the 4x10 back up.

a pretty easy setup if u got a combo that ur not really using

Thanks so much, floaded.  I have my old Fender Bassman 100, so that might work.  I will definitely keep you updated.

your welcome, dhag.
thanks, jeremy.

might as well pass on my experience to others. it took me a while to figure that out. since i help clean my church i had some time to experiment with stuff. i wasnt always satisfied, so a few times when i moved my stuff to clean the musicians area, i decided to rearrange things to try and get something better. afterwards i plugged up and played for a good while (when i shouldve been cleaning. lol) and i was satisfied. But on Sunday morning, it totally did NOT work. and i was pretty much stuck for the service.

a good tip: always have someone around when you change your setup. that way you can get someone on other instruments, if not all of them, to sort of recreate what happens during service to see if it actually works (they dont have to be able to play, just make some noise while you play through on ur bass)

floaded, before I try your suggestion I am going to try--emphasis on try--to go through the house again.  I haven't tried it with the new rig, and we've got some new sound technicians, so maybe.....and a friend who plays bass is coming by rehearsal tonight so another experienced ear may help.

If it doesn't work though, you've given me something to try.  Again, you have my thanks. I will keep everyone posted.
