USA peavey cirrus 5
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:28:41 AM »
So i got the bass in the mail last night.....

MMMAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN this thing is the TRUTH!!!!!!!

DO NOT SLEEP ON PEAVEY!!!!  If you watched this video (
) I can truthfully say that In a matter of 15 seconds I dialed in that EXACT tone.

It's light, comfortable, has adjustable string spacing (only on the us models), and has a WIIIIIDDDDEEEE variety of tone.

I don't think I'll be going to sleep early for a couple of weeks now :-)

I can honsetly say this bass isn't oging AAANNNYYYWHERE!!!!

If you can't afford the US model Dont' sleep on the bxp models in your local Guitar Center.  You can buy the US preamp for like $55 , but when I was testing them out this past sunday I was able to get a tone close to maurices in the video.

Excellent bass!!!

They are some great basses.  I think alot of people sleep on them because of the Peavey name.  What are the specs on the on that you bought?

In a thread over at Talkbass, I mentioned how when I was younger and still lived in New York, I used to visit this music store on Gun Hill Road (not far off White Plains Road). This store seemed to be a 'Peavey' promoted spot and I was around those instruments all the time. I loved the amps but totally ignored the guitars and basses thinking they were crap! This was during the 80's-90's. I played a Cirrus about 2 years ago (even though they weren't making them back then) and couldn't believe the sound and quality and even when Musicians Friend was blowing out the USA Millennium's, I still ignored them (coulda had them brand new for less than $300!). My mission is to find a mint USA Millennium Plus 5 string (always on eBay). Bottom line is that the USA made Peaveys are well made instruments. I own a Millennium BXP AC 5 string that rocks but it's not the same as the USA models. I like the Cirrus but I like the MM/J style setup on the Millenniums.

I love the US Cirrus, I've played a lot more expensive basses that didn't come close.
The redwood has the right tone for me. I had a walnut and it played well, just not the tone I was looking for. I think they are one of the best used bass bargains out there.

The only Bass I owned from Peavey was the T-40.  I have played any Basses, but
the T-40 is the only Bass I have kept for more than 2 years.
Had Bass for 27 years and still going strong.

Must agree J. I have the US Peavey Cirrus 6 string and it is a KEEPER. Wats sooooo funny.....Went on gigs and other bassist asked me what Im playing and I told them, them jokers laugh and snickered until I plugged that beast(peavey cirrus) in. Now all the sudden they wanta try it out, trippin on how its setup and the tone and flexibility it has......But what I learned, no more do I go by name brands, how cheap or expensive it is, he say she say, what everyone else is saying. All about how it feels, sounds to my liking.......thanks PEAVEY. If Im not mistaken Fender and Peavey came together for these new Peaveys!!!!!!!

Just been playing bass for about a year now, and my first bass that I purchase was a used, in very good
condition, USA Peavey Cirrus 5 from ebay for $700/w case. It was built in 2003, and I play it thru a combo,
Roland amp. My bass playing journey has just begun, thank-you Peavey and thank-you ebay. :) :) :)

Peavey Cirrus USA used to be the source of many a major GAS attack for me.  There was a music store near me that carried them.  I can probably accurately claim that anybody who got their Cirrus 5 or 6 from that store, I played it before they bought it.

Peace,

James

The Cirrus is the truth fa real. One of my buddies has the old school Peavey LT5 (now the cirrus) which was THE bass during it's time. Like said before, the price and high demand doesn't mean too much when talkin about this bass!
Keys, bass, drums, trombone, I sing a lil bit too lol

I play a Peavey 5-string fretless as my primary bass; I tried other fretless models but I liked this one the most. I use D'Addario Half Rounds XL bass strings or Elixirs to bring out the instrument. Peavey is definitely a good buy.
