Everyone knows Vinnie has chops but there is more to Vinnie than chops. Vinnie dooesn't get his gigs because of blowing chops. he gets his gigs because of his groove, his ability to sight-read and project feeling from a chart/piece of music.

If groovin' was easy everyone would have a discography, resume and roledex like Vinnie, Steve Ferrone, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Abe Laborial Jr., Calvin Rogers. I encourage you to dig deeper into your appreciation of music. I am not bashing you just offering giving wise counsel. Seamlessly playing in 5 as musically as he did is by far difficult and memorable than blowing chops. Read Vinnie's interview in Modern Drummer magazine.

Jonathan, Man Like Sabe said, there is WAYYYYY! more to Vinnie than chops. You found it more Impressive because he was doing a lot of chops, licks or whatever.  :-\

Chops are cool but stay away from that Mentality that chops are the only way to go. I'm sure Vinnie didn't get his Break by showing all the Tricks in his " Bag-O-Chops " ;) Or any of the other Big Names in drums.
Establish a groove before you worry about how many lick you can pull of. I mean, we all can dish out licks but at they end of the day, the people who established their groove first are the ones that will get the gigs.
