One thing about theory, is that I have grown a lot. In the beginning I had no theory and now, I am actually coming out with a DVD that teaches the number system. So you can see that I, Jamal Hartwell, too am learning along with everyone else. I don't have all the chords and licks. I'm learning just like everyone else.
We can tell. Its something when someone who is teaching the class, comes back with new stuff, reinventing themselves, and polishing off the rough edges. Alot of seasoned pros, dont think they need to practice, much less learn something new. I bought the entire Christmas bundle you offered,; I think I started with the Tritone Dvd (which is excellent btw. I got the main keyboardist at my church making those ugly faces during service cause he likes what Im playing. A really on time product! Nobody has thought of focusing a few hours teaching specifically on the tritone, and it was really helpful.). Later on I looked at the original contemporary worship dvd, which for me, was hard to get with because of vocab and such. (I will still study it though) In any case, it showed that you've moved WAY past were you were.
So tell us, since we have your attention:
How do you learn your best stuff? I mean like when you're really learning it, for maximum understanding. How does a pro, keep up the serious learning, even the theory stuff?
-Through shedding alone tons of hours
-Shedding with others and exchanging stuff
-Listening to songs and other challenging stuff (in gospel, or in other genres)
-Working with a mentor/teacher
