The Biggest Influence...
« on: May 18, 2008, 01:31:51 PM »
I'm writing this because curious about what the biggest influence on guy's playing is. My largest influence right now is jazz, which I teach, and play semi-professionally. I'm also heavily influenced by neo-soul. What are some of your influences?

P. S. The genres I've listed are my current influences, I've done the traditional gospel thing already.

I'm still learning and developing my style, but I mostly study local Cogic organist and quite a few dvds. I also listen to tons of neo soul, 80's Rnb, Dance music, Jazz organist such as Richard Groove Holmes, Jimmy Smith etc. I plan on taking whatever I can from many different genres and create a unique style. I wanna be a musician that can play contemporary as well as play with an oldschool feel.

And Muziqman, I'ma Try to check you out next sunday in westbury

The biggest influence on my music ever has to be old skool gospel.  I'm talking bout that gospel from the 80's and below.  Those musicians had some annointing on them and they knew how to work a piano & organ.

My current musical influences right now are some contemporary gospel, R&B, classical, and pop/rock music.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

I really like 70's soul as well as 80's and 90's gospel, r&b, jazz, smooth jazz, and even blues.  If I hear something I'd like to play, then I try to learn it and work it into my own style.

My biggest influence is my classical training growing up and anything from Kevin Bond from early 90s till about 2003 and anything from Cedric Thompson.
